Do your due diligence on the fiscal health of these states, and you may not be as willing to pack-up and leave. Besides starting at the bottom – again – should you be so lucky to land a job at any of the cited jurisdictions, there are other concerns closer to home you must evaluate, such as up-rooting your family from their familiar surroundings and transplant them into a totally foreign environment. Yes, your family members will love you for prescience! Get real and accept the facts as Commissioner Sarnoff said: 2+2 = 4 and under the current dire economic conditions, you cannot get the pay and benefits of the past . . . for now. Everyone is hurting and sacrificing; some folks have not been able to land a job for years and are a wit’s ends. Thank God you have one that pays the bills and allows you the opportunity to make extra cash through off-duty jobs. Cop up!

Theres COPing UP!

Then theres just being stupid. I would bet most of us with mortgages are upside down. We arent gonna see a return on our homes for a decade or more. Our previous raises only gave us parity with other much smaller depts and were taken away a short while later. Our fop has demorilized the youth of this agency by showin that cronyism is the way to the top. The fop has further shown that they are completely out of touch with the meat and potato's of his agency.

The average officer workin here is struggling and has been struggling for some time. We got caught up in the housing market. Our property values got slashed too. But our bills continue to go up, not down. And those extra jobs you speak of, aint so easy to find. Postings for jobs that work for an officers varied schedule are tough to find and often mean big sacrificea at home or personally. Guys regularly work 17-20 hr days so they can get one good job, as opposed to having to juggle schedules for 4 days in a row to make peacemeal jobs work. And the off duty office aint exactly overflowing with unclaimed jobs. I could easily see officers getting into fistfights over a job when if this contract goes thru as said.

Asking the men and women to go backwards 20% in pay over two years is insanity. Asking for us to basically pay for the cities fleet of cars is insanity. Asking for us to give up holidays that most of us rairly gey to enjoy with our families is insanity.

This is a screwed up dept. And we are a bunch of screwed up cops. But we are the glue that keeps this screwed up city together. We deserve to be appreciated and fairly compensated for what we do. We work hard and have some of the best response times in law enforcment. But what i say here wont matter one bit. Because our spokesmen, are only here for themselves. And we, the baddasses that we are, are to scared to tell them, they work FOR US after all, what to do.

I admire your passion and based on the dire conditions you described; maybe it might be best if you resign, up root your family and go west. God be with you and yours!
