A 32-year-old woman was shot and killed by Miami-Dade police in Northwest Miami-Dade early Friday morning.
At about 3:30 a.m., detectives responded to a call reporting that a woman, who might have been armed, was making threats to herself and others in a home on the 1000 block of Northwest 109th Street, said Javier Baez, spokesman for Miami-Dade police.
When detectives approached the home and made contact with the 32-year-old woman, she began firing a handgun at them. Officers returned fire, killing her.
A Miami-Dade policeman was struck in the abdomen during the exchange of fire and was taken to a hospital.
More information, including the name of the woman, has not yet been released.
This is the second shooting within the week that involved Miami-Dade police.
At about 2 a.m. on Tuesday, officers spotted three men in a stolen Honda in the Nob Hill West residential complex on Kendall Drive and Southwest 104th Street in Kendall.
When police approached the car, the driver sped toward officers near the exit of the residential area. Police shot at the car after the driver ignored verbal warnings to stop.
Two men inside the Honda were injured. They were taken to the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital where they remained in stable condition.
Authorities released the suspects’ names on Thursday: Michael Membrides, 22, and Ricardo Noa, 19, have been charged with aggravated assault with a motor vehicle on a law enforcement officer, attempted grand theft auto, resisting arrest with violence and with criminal mischief.
Marcos Acosta Quirch, 23, was charged with attempted grand theft auto and with criminal mischief.
