Not your union, yours is busy fighting personal wars and brown nosing politicians for promotions

On Saturday, North Miami Beach Police officers went door-to-door to alert residents about a budget proposal that could cut two dozen law enforcement positions. "Every single person, they say, 'What?'" said North Miami Beach Police Sergeant Nelson Reyes. "They are trying to lay off 24 police officers and 13 civilians here."
The officers have been attending budget hearing meetings and are now trying to convince residents in the community to attend the meetings.
The City Manager in North Miami Beach is faced with a $7.5 million budget shortfall and proposed cutting the two dozen police officers. However, the police union said the proposed cuts would put the public's safety in jeopardy. One officer told a citizen, "It's your safety that's going to be at hand."
The 24 law enforcement positions that may be cut represent a 25-percent reduction in the police force, which could potentially affect police service. "When you look at the response time in North Miami Beach now, it's somewhere between two and three minutes when a crime goes out," said Reyes. "If you look at some of the other agencies that have less per capita ratio of officers to people, their response time is sometimes an hour and a half, two hours. In some cities, the officers never showed up."
The next budget meeting will be held on Tuesday, and residents will have an opportunity to voice their concerns to the mayor and city commissioners.

I do not know about "officers never showing up", but having lived in the county many many years, their response time to non emergencies SUCK BIG TIME. And it is NOT the county officers fault. My home was shot up and it took an hour and a half for unit to get to my home. The county commission has a very long history of under staffing their police and fire operations. Funding of the M D F D was so low, the county fire union convinced voters to form a fire dept funding board under home rule laws, to decide and set funding for the fire dept. AGAIN, it is not the fire and police personnel fault. the blame belongs to the the politico running the shebang. And from news reports, the new mayors pay scale for his staff, tells me, nothing has changed at county hall.
