Sarasota approves parking meters throughout downtown

The city will expand parking meters throughout downtown, said City Manager Bob Bartolotta.

I will never go downtown again. It is only a matter of time before the plywood goes up on the store fronts and it looks like so many other deserted, blighted downtown across America. The merchants have just shot themselves in the foot and ended their livelihood. It will take decades to tear every thing down and replace it with big buildings where no one goes except corporate employees. In the meantime, expect a lot of vacant lots and boarded up buildings just like all across America. Long live the parking meter and myopic politicians. There are plenty of places to go outside the central area. Free parking at Wal-Mart, Target, and Panera. u
