Depends on who you ask and when you ask it LMAO!

It obviously matters to someone! And they have made it known there is the right way and the wrong way.

08-03-2010, 10:43 AM
No, it doesn't matter. Anyone telling you it does is just expressing personal preference. All the bean counters who get the crash reports when they get sent up are well aware that "SR" stands for "State Road."

Don't fight the bean counters.

I guess using Insterstate 4 (State Road 400) wouldn't be that big a deal if I-4 (SR 400) wasn't self explanatory and if Insterstate 4 (State Road 400) actually fit on the location section of the f*@king crash report! Not to mention, that every Sgt, Lt, and district does it different and they all think their way is the only way.

Aren't there more important things to do than make troopers pull back their crash reports to change the road name?

Absolutely, like checking your activity or making you correct the description and locations on tickets.

r u saying the nu sgt. is a little anel or what?

I think it does matter, we work many crashes that involve visitors from other states or even countries. They may not know that SR stand for State Road. They may think it stands for (S)orry (R)ookie or (S)orry (Retire) already, it is what it is. And if that's the way Tally wants it, then go ahead and type in those extra letters 7 letters - but don't hurt yourself.

Well the problem, jack @ss, is not that we mind typing out words. The problem is several different people telling you to do it different ways. And it's not just State Road 400, it's also Interstate 4. There's only so much space on a crash report for location. The fact of the matter is that it really shouldn't be so big of a deal. Are we going to start putting United States Highway 441 instead of US 441?

It's I-4! Is it also SR 400? YES! Is it also State Road 400? YES! Is it also Interstate 4? YES! Who give a flying fxxx if someone is not from this state or country. This report isn't for them, it's for GEICO or State Farm!

I agree, the problem isn't that someone doesn't want to type the extra few letters. I could care less which way they want it - but it's a major pain in the arse if you have normally spelled out state road for the last how ever long, then have a sgt specifically mandate you use I-4 instead of spelling it out, then have the Lt mandate all state roads be spelled out. Problem is one Sgt requires it one way, then the Lt says do it a different way, then the crash manual says another; abbreviate this, but not that. No one in the chain of command is on the same page.

It does not appear to be coming from Tally - it seems to be a local Lt idea (which would be okay if everyone knew what the heck was going on). If Tally really wants everything S P E L L E D out, they should send out a directive so everyone in the state will be on the same page. And the number of characters allowed in the location section should be increased so you can actually spell out road names.

Oh stop crying. WHO CARES Its law enforcement. No one person is ever on the same page. Just do what eh or she wants and move on/ geez

What Troop/ District is this happening in?????????????? I-4 only spans two Troops, but hits about 6 districts......

The whole spell out thing is stupid.

08-11-2010, 01:50 AM
I am guessing this is the Volusia group complaining.

08-12-2010, 01:23 AM
I've heard of this new rule all along I4 (or "Interstate 4 (State Road 400)" just to be safe), which includes several counties, not just Volusia. I'm guessing the things will start to look like:

United States National Scenic Byway (Florida State Road A1A [or Alpha One Alpha]/ Scenic and Historic Coastal Highway/Indian River Lagoon Scenic Highway).

I wonder if that will fit in the location section?

You can put U.S. but not S.R. ?? You can put State Road but not United States?
wtf over...

Just an example of a supervisor with way too much time on their hands. This type of stuff is insignificant, trivial, is more a matter of preference and has no actual impact on the effectiveness of the crash report.

But then again I guess like all troopers, trooper supervisors too will focus on trivial stuff that doesn't matter. They just dont have a statute book to go by; they just make it up as they go along.
