I never hear anyone say anything good about metro so I had to see for myself before I judged you guys. And I have to say I was shocked on how unprofessional some of you guys are. It's not everyone but a vast majority of you guys are lacking as police officers. I see why cities are getting there own police. Your big bad county was the last agency in the county to get hand held radios.Your dept issues 6 shot revolvers as a duty weapon and is the only one I know of that DOES. Seems like in every other election, citizens elect to tax themselves MORE $$$ to form their OWN police dept. Can you say Pinecrest, Doral, Sunny Isles, and the best is Miami Gardens. In it's first year, they dropped the crime rate, what was it 20% ?(start up dept best you guys by 20%, LOL) You got AFIS 6-7 years YEARS AFTER IT CAME ON LINE. I agree that using Semper Fi in relation to MDPD is inappropriate.

However, municipalities in Broward County are returning their police services to Broward Sheriff department because the downturn in property values and property taxes has made it financially impossible for them to run their own police Departments. It doesn't have anything to do with quality of service, and has everything to do with the $$$$. It is likely that the same thing will happen in Dade County in the coming fiscal year.

MDPD is also the largest police department in the S.E. United States. In the top 10 in the Country. Accredited by CALEA and one other organization (the name escapes me right now) And FYI - the "brown clowns" as you like to call MDPD police officers actually provide all police services to unincorporated Dade-County and 3 contracted cities PLUS many services to the municipalities. Municipalities are dependent on us for all Sheriff Services (court related) and use our Crime Lab, Forensic Artists, specialized investigations, SRT, and specialized units. So the municipalities can bad mouth MDPD all they want, but they simply CAN NOT do their job without US.

Wow, You could not expect me to take anything you have said seriously. Which Municipalities are returning to a BSO, what maybe one or two? I highly doubt it will happen in Dade County, its just not going to happen, there's no going back, among a lot of other reasons, there to much city-nationalism in this county. You give a lot of theatrical facts, but for people who know MDPD, it means nothing. Crime lab ect. OK, but I'm not sure about specialized investigations, those are more collaborative efforts, and almost every city in the county has its own swat, this is no longer 1990s era, city cops, we do our own dirty work. MDPD's crime lab is horrible! The several times I've submitted evidence requiring prints to MDPD's lab over the years, I have NEVER gotten ANY results back! (Evidence was well preserved and proprely submitted). The 2 times I've had to submit evidence to BSO's crime lab and requested prints I got a partial palm print off a half kilo of cocaine and 2 finger prints off a plastic bag in another case. FDLE (or BSO) should take over the lab in Miami-Dade County: then ALL agencies would get the SAME level of service and treatment!

Don't feel bad - I had a similar situation with MDPD's Crime Lab. We sent a latent print (of value) to the lab in which the subject was not known at the time. Lab said no "hit" was returned thru AFIS. The f'd up part is the print belongs to a Career Criminal who had been recently released from a Florida Prison. When confronted, the Lab just said "OOPS", don't know how that one got by! I do know how - the print was never examined because they don't care about the municipalities. Freaking liars!!! Very disappointed with the lab!!!

I've seen many of the rookies belittle and admonish everyday citizens for nothing other than routine traffic violations or a question asked at the wrong moment. But those same individuals won't willingly patrol a rough neighborhood and deal with carreer criminals or crowded street corners to look for wanted subjects.
