The Barganing Agreement states that for Correctional Probation Officer (excluding Community Control Officers) the normal work day is 8a-5p Monday through Friday. See Article 23, Section 2(e). If your supervisor wants to push the issue they can based on the language in the Barganing Agreement.

Article 23 does not apply to the OP question.

So, when are you people in Circuit 6 suppose to go to the field if you have to work 8-5, M-F?

In 1992 in the ft. lauderdale region the officers were working only 8 to 5. no cpo officer was allowed in the office on weekends only cpo2 (cc). can you imagine a time when cpo out numbered senior officers in numbers? then came field time and the whole dc mentality changed. but with budget restrains and out of control cpo case loads with the statement see your max cases only what difference does it make if you go out 8 to 5 or? give it up the community corrections has been without direction for 8 years!

Some of you must be kidding. No where in the first post did it say anything about working 8-5, Monday-Friday.

no joke, its the new game here. if your not scheduled for the feild you must be in the office 8-5. no more 6-2, 7-3, 10-7, ...office must have compleete coverage durig business hours. flexibility is about the only thing worthwile aroundhere anymore take that away and the job really just suks.

The key words might be "complete coverage". For years the offices have been run by the cpo's while the specialist and senior officers claim they are untouchable and their case loads require constant field time. Yes, take away "flexibility" and a sucking job sucks more. Everyday community control and sex offenders are instructed by the cpo because the 'special people' are out making it a long weekend.

Wow, in our office it is the opposite: the specialists and sr officers are the ones in the office until 5 most days, not the other way around.

Where is your office, California? :snicker: :snicker: :snicker:

If you don't like it, then find another job! Article 23 does apply to PO's. Gone are the days of working 40 hours in 3 or 4 days and then placing the burden of you not being in the office on others. Gone are the days of working in the office (alone) after hours or on weekends. I think there is a policy that states a supervisor must be available. Gone are the days sleeping or doing non related DC work during those hours. Blame the few who took advantage of this, now everyone has to pay. I guess those with second jobs, child care issues, etc. will need to adjust. Don't forget, we work for the department. The Department does not work for us. Man up and work the hours expected and stop boo hooing. I have never seen such a group of whiners. Take responsiblity! Even the greeters at Walmart must comply with rules if they want to keep their jobs.

You sound like a puppet for central office! Nobody is asking to work 40 hrs in 3 days. We are talking about a flexible schedule and not a rigid one. You sound like someone who has no leadership skills and your only answer is, "go work at Walmart." No wonder morale in community corrections is at rock bottom.

How many of you know co-workers that do NOT work 40 hours a week? How many do you know run personal errands while "out in the field"? EXACTLY - all of us know at least 1 officer in our office or our circuit who have gotten away with these "perks" for years. Just do your job and stop complaining.

You know, you central office lackys make me sick! This isn't about some stereotyped PO not doing their job. As long as there''s been government employees there's been the "rumored" employee slepping on the job, making up hours, etc. Personally, I think you central office pretend PO's are jealous that the real PO's in the field have so much flexibility in their schedules. Most PO's work a varied schedule to check up on the criminals they supervise at different times to get a better picture of their lives. How many times has someone gone out on a Sunday afternoon and found the "poor unfortunate soul" with a no alcohol clause having a few beers during a game. We vary our schedules to make sure the CRIMINAL is not doing something CRIMINAL. You can't do that 8 to 5.

08-01-2010, 02:48 AM
You hit the nail on the head. It is all about control. Instead of nailing the slacker, they punish everyone and hinder your flexibility! The only thing these central office puppets are good for is shining a seat with their arse! What a bunch of boot licking apple polishers! :snicker: :snicker: :snicker:

They are not telling you to work monday thru friday, 8-5 dope! You work a varied schedule. I don't think working 10 hour days, monday thru thrusday, week in and week out is a varied work schedule. Or taking every wednesday off so you can work a second job is a varied schedule. Again, if you don't like it quit complaining and find another job. why work at a job were you are soooooo miserable!!!!!!!!!

The problem here is overall the department has many good employees who will do the job, be happy and not knit pic everything. If you want a varied schedule, go mow lawns or work at McD's.

the department is not telling you not to do field work on weekends or evenings. As always, the sour grapes will turn anything around.

This would be a great mentality if the slackers and abusers wern't actually "stealing" from the department and State by doing just that: not working 40 hours, doing shopping while in the field, heading out to bars/sporting events/home to watch a game, etc. So, while I do my job and rarely complain, it just pisses me off to no end to know those slacker officers are making the same pay as me...and if raises ever come around again, will get the same as I do. So, why should I work so hard and do my job correctly when I can adopt the state employee attitude and be just like them?
