View Full Version : Police Vs. Security

Just one question.
Why do cops look down at security officers?
Some cops started out as security officers themselves.

I am a security officer in Miami and I have called the police for assistance
and when the police arrives on my scene in the property I am protecting, they
tell me to leave.

Why do you do that?

Security guy do not waste your time trying to get some response out of this web site, truth is that 85% of the people here are not even real cops and the ones that are would answer you polite and honesty. There are a lot of us that came from security and if you are interested and ever make it just remember that guy that used to be a security officer.

The real reason why we look down to security guards are simple. You guys demand that we fix your problem your way and not our way and get mad when the results don't favor you. You call us for b.s. like improperly parked cars that are against the h.o.a. rules. Like we care and can do anything about it anyway. Not to mention when we make an arrest you guys are nowhere in court to build our case and it gets dropped making us liable for lawsuit and i.a. complains. Last but not least you guys try to take charge on our scenes like you are cops. Your job is to observe report and be a visual deterrent for the property owner. The fact that they hired you is only to keep them from incurred liability in lawsuits from people suing over getting robbed on their property. So they hire you guys for 8.00 an hour vs us for 34.00. Accept the facts and like it. If you don't I hear they need greeters at Walmart they pay the same and have a pleasant upward movement to management positions.

The worst part is that some of the security guards Ive had on scenes were more knowledgeable about what was going on and how to handle it properly than my 15 was. NO bs you all know some of them are total idiots then there are some that you know would be a great cop but for one reason or another they cant get on the pd

I agree that some security would be good cops. I am an instructor for G and D and a cop, some of you know who I am because I'm always at the range and training these folks. Some of them shoot better than POs also. I think the reason some aren't POs are as follows.

Some have been 39ed and can't get hired

Most are not US Citizens

Some (a few) make more money $$$ than us doing pretty high-end gigs that we (cops) can't do because our departments call it a conflict of interest (lot of ex-cops fall into this category)

PDs are not hiring non-certified (corrections either) and these guys are waiting their turn

Some need to get serious about life, stop sm-k-ng up, and get it together if they ever dream of being a PO

However, make no mistake. These security officers get shot at, shoot back, get punched, stabbed, and all the same s*h*i*t that some of us have had happen on duty. They write reports, their jobs are not safe, they work in high-crime areas dealing with real scumbags on private property. So...I'm just saying. And, most of them do it for far less pay than the average cop. I'm not advocating kissing of any a*s*s, just that we understand. Most of the ones that I know do the job because they really enjoy it, just like cops. I mean, do we really do this for the money? I know my life is worth more than any money. They could benefit from more training, but so could lots of POs. Anyways, POs AND SOs, be safe out there!

I agree with you 100%..

Before I went to the Academy and became employed with HCSO, I was an Instructor for both the D and the G. I was also an instructor for Taser, ASP Batons, and Handcuffs. Furthermore, I was an instructor for Sabre for the OC.

The main point that I made to any SO that I Was training is that you are not LEOs. What a lot of LEOS do not realize, is that basically an SO as the most authority on a property they are contracted to protect in the absence of the property owner. I remember shortly after I was hired, one of our deputys constantly harrassed an SO. The SO had the deputy trespassed from the property. The property was a gated community. Technically the deputy was trespassing and refused to leave when the SO asked him to. A week later, the deputy returned to the property, no other deputy would issue a written trespass or go x15 at the SO's request. That SO somehow got a hold of our IA and that deputy is no longer with the agency.

I hate the the ones that think they are cops, Right up to the moment they get there ass kicked by someone. All the other ones are just doing there little job.

Hey metro the only guys getting their ass kicked and getting ran over with their own vehicles is METRO.. That is sad. Plus you are not even a PO because you still refer yourself to METRO when you have been the MIAMI DADE police.

LEARN YOUR POSITION YOU SOFT ASS COOKIE

I took that 40 hour security course in a rinky dink security agency so I can get my license. After being unemployed for two years and waiting to get hired by Miami-Dade which now has a 100 year waiting list, I needed a job doing something. That 40 hour D license class is a joke. The people including the instructor knew less than me and 99% of the people taking the class didn't even speak English.

I work for a company as a field supervisor and I find that there are very few guards that speak English. I read their reports and I wonder if they completed the 3rd grade. Security is a joke.

And I can't stand the 19--20 year old punks who think they are cops and want to "arrest" people. Who the hell told them they have arrest powers? No wonder the police don't respect security.

I can't wait to get hired by Miami-Dade. If that doesn't work, I will use my Bachelor degree to get a teacher certificate. Hopefully I can get a job as a teacher. Although my girlfriend got laid off by the Broward School system last school year.

What a mess we are in.

Not all police officers are good. Some security guards are more knowledgeable than the police men.

I work Security for a party hotel in SOBE. I love my job because I literally get paid to talk to beautiful women and hang out at pool parties and a night club. Every once in a while we will have the occasional idiot that doesn't handle his liquor and will start a fist fight and we escort him off the property. I have colleagues that compare our job to police work and on the inside Im thinking they are an idiot because in no way do we work that hard. My dream is to be an officer which is why Im paying my way through an academy next month and keeping this security gig on the weekends. So please guys stop having this retarded argument between which is tougher and who is smarter because police work is such a broader scale compare to our tiny properties we patrol. I would hate my job if it wasnt for the fact I get more action in the past 6 months working there than I have in the 24 yrs of my existence.

Police vs Security? I think they are all the same because they all have guns but in rank position police is much higher than security.
