03-24-2010, 09:34 AM
EVERYONE, PLEASE call and/or email these guys TODAY (WED). The goal is to let them know WE OPPOSE the cuts to our pensions. Below is only some that ARE IN JEOPARDY if we all don't get off our butts (me included) and raise pure hell. We, along with our families, have sacrificed and sacrificed, to protect Florida from the worst in our society. We have worked so long to earn this pension and we really need them to STAND UP for us.
IN JEOPARDY: Reducing the 3% Accrual Rates for Special Risk;Eliminating Retiree Health Insurance Subsidy;Increasing Special Risk normal retirement age to age 60 or 30 years of service; Reducing the retirement COLA below 3%

When you contact them, also let them know where they can get the $15.4 billion to cover the pension fund deficit.

Thank you for taking the time to write regarding the issue of public employee retirement. I appreciate the opportunity to learn of your thoughts and concerns on this important issue.

As we are completing our committee meeting process, two retirement related bills, HB 1319 and HB 1543, have been withdrawn from consideration. As a result, these bills will not advance this Session, however it is possible that similar bills may. I encourage you to continue to watch the Legislature as Session proceeds.

Thank you again for writing to me. Please know that as the Legislature deliberates this important issue, I will keep your thoughts and concerns in mind. If I may be of assistance to you in the future, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,

Larry Cretul
Speaker

I received the above response this morning and it was a sigh of relief.

Keep in mind that Senator J.D. Alexander is still pushing State employee contributions through SP 2022. It passed yesterday through the Ways and Means Comm. http://floridacapitalnews.com/article/2 ... WS/3260332 (http://floridacapitalnews.com/article/20100326/CAPITOLNEWS/3260332)
