Get out as soon as you can because you will just fall farther and farther behind if you stay.

The plan in Tallahassee at GHQ is to reduce the number of troopers down to 600 statewide within the next 3 years. Patrolling interstates will be the sole function of the Florida Highway Patrol so if you do not have any interstates in your area you will be one of the ones targeted to eliminate your position. Ultimately the goal is to get down to no more then 375 troopers, that will be accomplished through retirements and attrition.

Yes this is on the table in Tallahassee and is being put together as we sit here.

Normally I take what is said here with a grain of salt, however, I know for a fact that Georgia did the same thing that FHP is about to do. They widdled the numbers down and now only have a "prescence" in the Atlanta, Savannah, and Macon areas - nothing like it was back in the day, and patrol the interstates primarilly. If you are a north FL Trooper in a GA border county, talk to a GSP Trooper next time you see one and ask them about this.

I'm not buying it. Many of these rural counties rely on FHP for ticket revenue and crash responses. Sure the major metro city/counties only need us on the interstates, but most counties rely on FHP for traffic.

Even in the most remote counties, deputies still generate more revenue from traffic tickets then troopers do! Why? There are more deputies out there!

You don't know what you are talking about. Another internet poster that does not use facts and only opinions. How about you take a look at this document and look at the breakdowns in the various counties. If you actually take the time to do this, you will see FHP involvement is huge in some counties and lacking in others. You made a statement that was completely wrong.

Even easier for you:

By my quick count 38 counties FHP writes more than the county. So "even in the most remote counties", FHP is important for the clerk of court.

There is a lot of talk about the state wanting to throw more things on the county to help the state budget.

If what you say is true, how could a north Florida trooper ask a GSP trooper since none of the cities you listed are boarder cities?

You better add another three years onto that.
