What does it say about FHP when other agencies call your supervisor for a background interview and your SGT refuses to speak with them. Is this really the kind of people we are promoting within FHP?

It says that the sergeant knows the proper procedure. All inquiries are suppose to be directed to the personnel section in Tallahassee and local supervisors are not to comment on current or former employees work history. It opens the Department up for liability.

You should learn the procedures and the facts before you lash out.

It is a little tough for Tallahassee to comment on an employee that they have no idea about. These are questions that only a direct supervisor can answer. I have known of several supervisors that have had no problem answer these questions.

Like said before, if a supervisor were to make these comments and they wound up being negative and costing someone a job, it could be lawsuit city. I sure wouldn't be volunteering that type of info as a sergeant.

It is actually a law that mandates what an employer may discuss with a prospective employer. However, under public records laws, a prospective employer may look at a personnel file, but that would require a trip to GHQ. The only thing that can be said over the phone or in writting on letterhead is name, time in grade, salary, & eligible for rehire.

This idea that anything and everything "opens up" an agency for a law suit is silly.

In today's litigious society, anything and everything is a possible liability to an agency.
