What types of non moving traffic violations land you in jail

Just curious as they seem to land quite a few in jail. I wonder what type of non moving traffic violation would be bad enough to land you in jail.

Go to http://www.leg.state.fl.us/STATUTES/. The statute number is next to the violation, so you can look up the statute and find out exactly what it is.

Just to make it easy for you, 322.34.5 is a felony driving while license suspended.

Those are the main ones. Most in jail on traffic are there because their license is suspended.

Reckless HAS to be a moving violation. DUI can be while parked (and non-moving). And why do you think they call it "driving" while license suspended? Sounds like movement to me.... How about switched tag. Expired more than 6 months. No DL on demand. There are 3 that I believe fit the bill.

I guess "wondering" must be a ECSO traffic unit... (aside from 388 of course) They only people they ever pull over are folks who do not pull over for the funeral they are escorting.... Maybe if they worked outside of 8-5 they would run into citizens on their traffic stops that deserved to be arrested.

The traffic unit is a joke. All they do is write bs tickets to have numbers to impress admin. They all gang up on roads with ridiculously low speed limits and hammer people for a few miles over the speed limit that for the most part are just trying to get to work. You never hear them out where real traffic hazards are trying to help save lives. Don't get me wrong I like the guys there, but it rests with leadership which for the most part they have none. Someone needs to be in charge that says "Hey guys, people are driving like maniacs on 9 mile Road or Pine Forest" and get up there and write some "real" speeders that are actually endangering lives instead of Joe the plumber going to work and doing 10 over on Mass. Ave.

With all the people in traffic maybe spitting it up like patrol and have them work like we do so there would have some working on weekends and holidays....NEVER HAPPEN because traffic has ALWAYS been then golden boys no matter who the sheriff is. I'm not taking up for Traffic but since a couple of you obviously are talking beyond their expertise I thought I would put my two cents in.

Number one the Traffic Unit is a political toy. It is the most effective PR toy the Sheriff has.

Traffic works weekends because with few exceptions that is when the funerals are. Weather you know it or not that is the real reason for our traffic unit because it is a vote getter.

Being in the bible belt, that is one thing that is expected of LEO agencies. Larger departments outside the bible belt have started using their traffic units for traffic and making funeral escorts a side job. Our Sheriff's and Police Chief's won't do that.

Also, statistics show that most people work Monday through Friday so that is when the traffic is heaviest during morning and evening rush hour and between 11 and 1300 for lunch.

When Traffic is not doing escorts they have details that they do were they make many more traffic stops then a majority of the patrol officers. So they do stop more people for traffic violations than they do for not pulling over for a funeral. How many times have you actually seen them take time to stop someone for not pulling over. They are usually to busy. They will however pull someone over for joining the procession or trying to pass it in the same direction. That just makes sense.

Most of the traffic details are in areas that receive complaints. Oh my god there it is again, a vote getter. Go figure. So when they gang up in areas with low speed limits, it might be because it was in response to complaints. I think if you check the radar logs on the tickets that are written for low speeds, it would show that the speed was more like 15 to 20 over or more and the traffic officer wrote them for 9 to keep the fine down. This does two things, it helps the citizens which helps the Sheriff and it promotes less complaints from the public which, there it is again, helps the Sheriff.

If Joe the plummer were driving down Mass Ave doing the speed limit near that "SCHOOL", he wouldn't have to worry about getting a ticket would he?

This is the way it has always been and most likely always will be.

Your stats may be somewhat correct about when there are more motorists on the roads driving but if you consider when the whole group is having lunch at the same place (against policy) at the same time, that cuts out about two hours of when all those drivers are out there. If they were concerned with traffic problems, they would go where there are speeders that contribute to accidents that cause people to lose their lives. Obviously you have better crack than I do because I can still read a post. If you could read you would already know I don't work nights and I said I wasn't defending them. There is a lot they do that I don't agree with but I don't make policy but I do abide by them.

I didn't name the Traffic Unit, that is what it is titled.

You ever stop to think that maybe they don't answer up because they are on a funeral escort. I didn't choose to have them doing funeral escorts. The administration did that. In case you haven't noticed, we have a lot of funerals around here. We have a lot of retirees in the area which makes for an older citizen base which unfortunately results in a large number of funerals.

As for lunch. When do you eat lunch? I would guess its when you can and you try to do it between 11 and 1300. Why should they be any different? Incidentally most funerals are not run during lunch.

As for the all in one restaurant. There are 11 of them and I don't think you have ever seen all of them at one restaurant. Besides, I eat lunch everyday and I routinely see more than 2 cruisers, sometimes as many as four in a restaurant and they weren't traffic cars. So lets be honest. We are all guilty of doing that. Its not something new. You know parking in a lot across the street, or behind a building, in front of another business is not fooling anyone. That is the oldest trick in the book. Don't single out traffic on that one.

You say they need to go were the majority of the speeders are. When was the last time you wrote a speeding ticket. Patrol means just that and ticket writing is part of it. Patrol is short but there are more patrol units on the road in the county at one time then there are traffic units. You and I both know that patrol is busy but there is time for ticket writing.
