View Full Version : New Contract

08-18-2009, 02:29 AM
Anyone hear yet what the final give and take will be on the new Contract. I know it's been said we won't be getting a COLA but will be losing any other benefits, or be paying higher health insurance costs?

08-18-2009, 07:37 AM
I heard gas is gonna go up, not sure how much.

08-19-2009, 12:48 AM
Is it even FINAL yet????
If we do anything less than the PBCFR got, I am switching to FOP. I have lost almost all confidence in our Union .

08-19-2009, 12:53 AM
Go to FOP. Who in the hell needs you anyway? If you think the FOP can do anything close to what our PBA does then dont let the door hit you in the crack of your ass.

Read the article below in the Post; does Lake Worth have a separate union contract. Looks like they are scheduled for a 3% salary increase, at least according to what this article says transpired at the LW Commission meeting.

Lake Worth approves spending $415,544 more for sheriff's office service
By WILLIE HOWARD

Palm Beach Post Staff Writer

Wednesday, August 19, 2009

LAKE WORTH — More than nine months after the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office took over law enforcement in Lake Worth, city commissioners and residents said during Tuesday's commission meeting that they are pleased with the job the sheriff is doing.

But commissioners fretted over the cost of the law-enforcement agreement Tuesday night when they reluctantly approved a 3 percent increase in the contract that will cost taxpayers an additional $415,544 during the budget year that begins Oct. 1.

The adjusted annual contract will cost the city $14.3 million - just under $1.2 million a month.

With an additional $1.3 million budgeted for pension contributions, office space, insurance and utilities, the annual tab is nearly $15.6 million.

It could have been worse.

The 10-year contract with the sheriff's office allows for a 7 percent increase in the first renewal year.

The 3 percent price hike will cover salary increases governed by union contracts, sheriff's officials said.

"We no longer have control over union negotiations for the largest department in our city," said Commissioner Cara Jennings, who cast the only vote against the contract addendum Tuesday and voted against merging the police department with the sheriff's office last year. "This is going to be hard, not just this year but every year."

City Manager Susan Stanton is recommending reductions in city staff for the upcoming budget year, partly because the taxable value of city property dropped 24 percent this year.

Stanton said the sheriff's office is doing a "superlative job."

"We are paying an extremely high price to get a premium service," Stanton said.

Commissioner Suzanne Mulvehill, who was elected after the sheriff's office merger, said the contract seemed to leave the city with few options.

Mayor Jeff Clemens, a proponent of the merger, said he has been pleased with law enforcement in the city since the sheriff's office took over Oct. 1.

Resident Katie McGiveron agreed. She told commissioners that she sees sheriff's deputies in her Lake Osborne Heights neighborhood much more often than she saw Lake Worth police.

"We are very happy with the sheriff," McGiveron said.

Can someone verify what PBC Fire Rescue got for their contract?

We need to start THERE... not give up before the sitdowns start.

My neighbor is a fire fighter and a few months ago he told me they get nothing the 1st year and I think he said 3% the next year??? In this economy I dont think thats too bad at all,

PUBLIC MEETING NOTICE

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office and the Palm Beach County Police Benevolent Association (PBA) shall meet for the purpose of Collective Bargaining (Law Enforcement and Corrections).

DATE: Wednesday, August 26, 2009

TIME: 8:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.

LOCATION: Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office
3228 Gun Club Road
West Palm Beach, FL

Executive Conference Room

08-21-2009, 04:01 AM
Requests are being sent to all of the County Commissioners so they can attend and call out Kaz on the double-dipping and refusal to publish the finances, plus the closed voting process for the rep's. There will be a lot of fire, but we'll see how prepared they are when some of the commissioner's arrive and demand answers.

08-21-2009, 04:21 AM
Get over it already. If you don't like the fact Kaz is the president, then you run next time, win, and then refuse to take a salary either from PBSO or PBA. We need a union, do you have any idea what the civilian sector is like right now? Do you know how much worse it is going to get now that Kenyan born messiah running the country is going to turn us in to pure socialism? Thank the Lord for Sheriff Bradshaw and the benefits he has given me! I've worked in the civilian sector, and obviously those on here complaining the loudest never have, otherwise you would appreciate how good we have it.

08-21-2009, 05:49 AM
Wait a minute, Obama isn't the Messiah??!!! Ahhh dayuuum!!!

08-21-2009, 05:55 AM
*is or isn't

08-21-2009, 01:54 PM
The County Commision has ZERO authority over the PBA. They can ask and demand just like anyone else can...............and get tossed out on their ears just like anyone else too.....Unfortunately.

I for one would LOVE to see the same Feds that are BBQing the county Commissions tail feathers take a look at the PBA. That way we could get a straight answer as to what is going on. If its clean, what a relief......if not, we can clean house and start over.

08-21-2009, 11:25 PM
STOP PAYING YOUR PBA DUES THAT WILL GET THERE ATTENTION

Hello Everyone,

Just a small thing for all the newer members, the ones in the middle of their careers, and the ones closer to retirement.

Before I retired I was paying $140.00 a month for the family health insurance plan.

Now retired, After all the subsidies are subtracted and all that, I am paying $949.00 a month. That's about $12,000 dollars a year or so.

I also pay Doctor co-pays, and prescription co-pays. All out of pockect cost.

When I was working I knew this was coming, but did nothing about it. Don't make the same mistake I did.

Go to the PBA and get this changed.

ALSO, the monthly premiums go up about $132.00 a month every year. EVERY YEAR, another $132.00 a month.

08-23-2009, 01:16 AM
Speak about needing health care reform - our agency does. Why is it that if you move out of state Cigna requires all PBSO employees to take PPO? (That is unless you were a higher up who got free insurance for life during the last big buyout).

Does anyone believe that Cigna does not have POS and HMO in EVERY state in the country?

Sheriff Ric and the PBA should have demanded that this change from day 1, but Cigna makes more money being able to demand we go to the top tier PPO. PPO not only cost more in monthly premiums, it also requires a lot more money out of pocket every time you go to the doctors or have any type of procedure.

This is an item that should be renegotiated, an item that both the Sheriff and the PBA should demand be renegotiated.

Yeah I know you young guys thinks it's not a matter of concern for you, but you and your family come your retirement - and believe me that 25th year comes quicker than you can imagine.

08-23-2009, 04:24 AM
This is in reference to littlebirdy's comment about "messah kenya" why cant Obama just be referred to as the President because that what he is!

Agree with most everything here but one thing. No one got FREE health insurance in the first big buyout. They did get drastically reduced premiums. And I do not know if in another buyout later, someone got a free pass on insurance. But in the first one it was a formula. 1.5 times normal supplement for Capts, 2 times for Majors 2.5 times for Col's.

But I agree 100% with you and the other posts. Health insurance for the retirees is critical. A D/S moving to GA (which we are considering) will pay approximately $14,000.00 OUT OF POCKET for health insurance. Don't forget the PPO calls for $500 deductibles.
There may not have been an increase in the premiums for people working now, but for retirees it has gone up almost 100% for some in the last few years.
That needs to be addressed NOW!!

This simply FROSTS my ars every time I see it and can't KEEP QUIET any longer.

Hey retirees, near retirees or mid-career-ees ~ GUESS WHAT'S COMING WITH RETIREMENT?! HEALTH INSURANCE COSTS!!!

Now YOU want US to take the HIT - NOW, to help you???

What a WISE person would do is PLAN, be prepared. Use the deferred Comp or other investment tool to COVER your health care. ~ Naw, YOU use it to buy a BOAT, an RV, a CABIN somewhere quiet while we're here busting our ASS every day on the road!

Hey - another thought: DO AS "regular" people do. Use SSI, Medi-Care, or what's out there. The coming socialist mindset will cover you.

Now you're proposing we SOCIALIZE our wages, pensions, investments, to cover YOU? WE all have to give up something in OUR contract, wages, union dues - to cover YOU?!?!

Ya had your chance for how many years?? YOU TOOK THE MONEY AND RAN!

So NOW, LEAVE MY MONEY & CONTRACT ALONE!!

Even those that are close to retirement with NO PLAN for your health care - YOU KNEW IT WAS COMING!! You didn't prepare, GOOD LUCK WITH THAT.

Gawd this ticks me off. - Good Day

There has been an increase to the employee, but the sheriff has picked up the cost increase for several years. Why do you think they have all this fitness stuff during in-service this year.

To the poster who is apposed to changing the contract to benefit retirees with medical insurance coverage.

You're a FRICKING IDIOT.

You must not be a cop. If you are, then I'm ashamed to work in the same field as you.

I'm not a ME generation guy or even in that mindset. The ME generation is failing on it's own with lack of planning and lack of thinking of the future.

I’m at the tail end of the Baby-Boomers. (1960)

I've already retired once from out of state. I’ve done a sweet 15 years and vested the pension there. My ‘baby-boomer plan’ is to access that WHEN I retire to cover my expenses for health insurance.
Instead of yanking the cash out and playing with it, I chose to let it lay there with a plan. ~ Yeah, I got it all worked out.

I wrote all that.

It's the old farts that have gone their whole career scraping and collecting, and now wants the working guy/gal to give up ... how many years of raises or steps, in order to cover the costs of health insurance?

If the retiree’s insurance costs are going to be $1,000/mo, then get a job doing what you LOVE to do, be it in a video store, a tanning salon, a wal-mart greeter?
Work for a small business like a Bait shop in the mornings for the owner if you like that stuff.
Earning $12k a year, RETIRED from this profession with a monthly pension would be a cinch. You can set your own hours.
Hey, start your own business. Do fishing charters, camping guides, sell AmWay ~ have a hobby that pays for your health care.

HERE’S a good proposal for the Road Toads still laying rubber on the road.

Let’s DO just what is being asked for our future. Let’s have a program for $0 cost health insurance.
Begin a TRUST FUND with $x per month invested by the member, voluntarily. After paying into this fund for at least 10 years, and retiring in GOOD STANDING from PBSO as a PBA dues paying member, your health care costs are covered by the fund. Something like privatizing social security.

Those that have WORKED for it, invested by making their own choice to sacrifice today for their future, would benefit. THAT I would agree on.

DID ANYONE GO TO THE PBA MEETING ON AUGUST 26. THERES NOTHING POSTED ON THEIR SITE JUST LIKE PBA TO NEVER INFORM ANYONE OF ANYTHING. STOP PAYING YOUR DUES, PBA SUCKS

Palm Beach Gardens PD and Palm Beach County Fire Rescue have plans in place for Healthcare upon retirement. I know Palm Beach Gardens is contributing a percentage of their pay and their healthcare will be covered upon retirement. (And their members actually want to contribute more). I know they froze it for the 5 years but after that members can retire and get the benefit. And the retired members will get the increases to cover the costs. I don't know how the Fire Rescue one works. My point is if these two agencies can have it why is the PBA not working on it for us. If the PBA spent have the time they do organizing golf tournaments and balls that no one can afford to attend this problem would be solved. Get off your a**** and start doing what the members want, stop the self serving hiring family and friends, do something that will benefit the whole agency. I attended the contract meeting and maybe instead of worrying about the 5% for the permits LT we could have put some thought into the healthcare issue.

what is so bad for the fto's? There are a few fto's on squad opposite of mine who havent had a trainee in a long time, they don't really want to train anyone and they tell other non fto's their pay is safe and cannot be touched because of cba. Its about time pba and the administration got together on all this nonsense. You got 60 or 70 sittin around this place making all this money and not doing anything for it. We are not even doing hiring. Complete waste of money if you ask me.

08-31-2009, 11:43 AM
Obviously, you not or have never been an FTO. Other divisions get 5% and have no real (except k9) responsibilities . Walk in their shoes before you pass judgment.

09-07-2009, 02:50 AM
You don't like it, goe elsewhere.
