So has anyone heard anything concrete regarding the hiring of new officers, or is the the money going to supplement the current budget and staff?

Latest thread stated that they were looking to hire new officers in Oct.

Thanks.

Allows to fill 5 spots in October

Well, according to an email put out by the chief this week, even with the money the city is receiving to hire 5 new officers or so to bring the agency to full staff, the city has a way of screwing that up. Now we still can't hire the necessary officers to become fully staffed. According to the chief, we can only hire like 3. How is it that the city can take federally provided money to do something specific with it and they change it and don't use it for what it was given to us to use it for?

I don't get it either. Mayor tells the Chief one day its OK to go to 122 in October then the City Council says it will NOT give the Department enough money for only 120.

For a City of 55,000 we need about 150 COPS. Every spot couts when we are out there. This is an Officer safety issue.

Well if we are getting screwed with less manpower on the actual street lets dump the dead weight in the DROP program!

How about going to a different schedule to better allocate man power? How about letting Sgt.'s run the show, thats what you pay them for. How many Lt.'s, Capt's and Deputy Chiefs does one organization need? A quarter of this organization is supervisors....now that's waste!

7 LTS. for Zones and Detectives and IA
2 Captains as District Commanders-- 2 Districts
2 DC's -one for patrol and 1 for Admin
1 COP

12 out of 122--- hmmmmmmmm don't seem too much? What are you talking about?

08-18-2009, 01:21 PM
Yeah, just what we need for the CHIEF to screw with our schedules!!! NOT.

you did not count the sgt.'s....then redo the math.

1 in IA, 2 in Detectives, 1 in Tac, 1 in Crime Prevention, 1 in Traffic, 5 in District One annd 6 in District 2 ----Don't seem like a lot.

What is your polint when you look at the numbers and wherre they are it looks OK to me.

08-22-2009, 05:08 PM
1 in Street Crime, 1 in Narcotics

08-22-2009, 05:29 PM
12 + 18 = 30 Supervisors for 90 Officers ??? 1:3 Ratio. That Does seem a Bit Much

You can't look at it that way.
12 Lts and above and 17 Sgts= 29 supervisors of of 122 but one has to look at jobs.

An admin job like IA or Crime Prevention will not have a 'span of control' --- people to supervise.

You are entittled to your opinion but it surely is not based on any management theory of supervison.

Span of control by the book:
Sgt--5 to 7 Officers
Lt shift supervisor
Capt. Area Commander
DC Admin assignments

But as I said you are entittled to your opinion.

1 in IA, 2 in (Regular) Detectives, 1 in Tac (Street Crimes), 1 in Crime Prevention, 1 in Traffic, 5 in District One annd 6 in District 2 ............

Oh yeah, 1 in Narcotics---- That would be 18.

17 Sergeants one of the Districts numbers is wrong.
