Come on, get it right. There is a big difference between calling the cops "stupid" and saying the cops "acted stupidly" when they arrested the homeowner, why; because the arresting cop said, "he yelled" at the officer." Wow, the elusive charge of contempt of cop (cleverly disguised as disorderly conduct) once again has made members of our profession look bad. We're not going to (and shouldn't) win this one so take it on the chin and don't make it worse than it is. We have all been in this situation and you swallow it and go to the next call. If acting like an idiot in your own home was a crime, the PCSO Jail would be filled with people just like the Harvard Professor. There is enough division in this country. Race is a tired discussion that we should be way passed.

If this was your father (or loved one) would you be satisfied with the cop's actions?

Very true, people including our ADM should get all the facts before they act. Amazing how opinions are formed when all the facts are not present. Knee Jerk reactions are all to common here.

Thanks LT. This BLACK (not afro-american) male needed to go. He can beat the wrap, but he didn't beat the ride.

okay Get it right My Father would NOT have acted like Gates, he probaly would have 1st complied with the officer request and then invited the officer in for a cup coffee or a cold bottle of water in this heat and 2nd thank the officer for doing his job, He would have told his children the next day laughting about the incident. Some of us with ethnic differences were raised to respect law enforcement officers trying to do there job. We were not raise to immedately think everyone is a racist.

The first poster in this string acted ignorantly by posting on this forum until all the facts are in. Notice how I insulted his timing of his post and not him directly. For I certainly did not want to offend.

Let's think about this shall we. Let's look at who has bashed the officer. El Presidente, the Governor of MA, and the Mayor of Cambridge, oh, the good Rev. Al Sharpton, every major black political leader, all who not only were not there but are not law enforcement officers. Let's see who has defended the Sgt. The black Sgt. who was on the scene, a very forceful defense in an interview I might add, the hispanic officer who can be seen in the photos as the one escorting the good professor off of the porch. All the Cambridge police unions and the Coalition of Police Unions in MA. Now, I too would expect the unions to come out and support the officer, however so did the Police Commissioner in Cambridge. Who, might I add did so after the other politicians came out and bashed the officer. Now the difference, the Commissioner did so after the investigation took place. There were witnesses who were interviewed, audio tapes from 911 and police dispatch tapes, and I suspect there is at least still camera footage because someone (not police) has turned over video to the investigators (according to the news) and photos of the incident have been on TV.

I am gonna guess, before the Police Commissioner spoke publicly in defiance of the El Presidente, his Governor, and his Mayor, he would have reviewed enough evidence that his guy was in the right before going public. I mean according to other posters, the admin normally would have certainly overreacted and punished before the investigation was complete. But that didn't really happen here. It doesn't really happen in the Park either but it makes for a good post. If that isn't enough, don't you think the White House would have had to been shown or explained something significant for Obama to have come out yesterday and backtrack, call the officer and invite him to the White House for a beer. Don't forget, he had already said twice on TV, once during a prime time press conference that the officer was wrong. I am going to go out on a limb here and say there is something that will come out that shows the good Professor in not so good a light.

But hey, you go ahead and defend him, I am sure you have done your research just like the Prez....
