With the announcement recently that Homeland Security was going to discontinue much if not all of the use of individual logos for the various agencies operating under their umbrella there is concern that much of the identity of the Secret Service will disappear.

One area where this is possible is the HR-218 identification card which allows qualified retired agents to carry concealed weapons throughout much of the country, with certain limitations. The current card already has lowered the profile of the Service by having the top of the card emblazoned with the title Homeland Security. Currently it does still display a Secret Service star. Will this go away in the future as part of the program of doing away with individual logos?

If you are ever going to want an HR-218 ID card, and if you want it to clearly indicate that your service was in the Secret Service, you might want to go ahead and apply now for a card. Contact your local Secret Service office for an appointment to go by and fill out the paperwork and have your photograph taken. The process of completing the card takes from several weeks to a few months.
