Officer William Greene submitted a letter of resignation to the Madison Police Department yesterday Wednesday, November 12th.
A letter from Police Chief Rick Davis says, the department responded as quickly as possible and followed protocol set out in the Florida Statues "Law Enforcement Officer's Bill of Rights".
"Law enforcement officers are empowered by their agency and by their community to enforce the laws of this state and the country. Given this authority, they are to be held to a higher standard. The officers of the Madison Police Department are also held to that same standard," says Chief Davis.
The criminal investigation is ongoing and WCTV will have more updates as soon as they are made available.

A Madison City police officer has been jailed on several charges after authorities say he had a confrontation with his ex-wife.
Officer William Greene was arrested last night after deputies say he held a gun to his ex-wife's head and threatened her.
SWAT units were called out as a precaution. Sheriff Pete Bucher said Greene was later arrested without incident and taken to the Madison County jail. He's charged with domestic violence and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
