View Full Version : Operation B.A.D - Blitz on Aggressive Drivers

10-16-2008, 10:54 PM
BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. -- The Broward Sheriff’s Office, Florida Highway Patrol and over a dozen police agencies from Broward County are teaming up to put the brakes on aggressive drivers on the county’s roadways.

South Florida leads the state in aggressive drivers. This joint enforcement effort will have BSO deputies, FHP troopers and police officers in unmarked cars zeroing in on aggressive drivers.

“Aggressive drivers have no place on our roads. They recklessly endanger the lives of all motorists, their passengers and innocent people,” said Sheriff Al Lamberti.

"We have a lot of people out there who are not criminals - who are every day people. They get in their cars. They're late for meetings or appointments. And they think they are law abiding citizens, but they're not," Major Miguel Guzman of FHP told Local 10's Julie Summers.

The initiative is not just limited to cars. Florida Dept. of Transportation Motor Carrier Compliance officers are also participating. Their focus will be to target trucks and big rigs whose drivers aren't complying with the law.

BSO has also taken other steps to make roads safer, including granting municipal police departments county-wide jurisdiction for traffic offenders.

Drivers can no longer speed or recklessly drive by a police car that's out of its jurisdiction. Broward County officers are now empowered to enforce the traffic laws wherever they see laws being broken.

Operation “BAD” will be an ongoing effort conducted on the iInterstate roadways, toll roads and highways in Broward County.

“We want to send a clear message to aggressive drivers that we have no tolerance – zero - for this careless disregard for human life,” Lamberti said.

BSO is going to run this thing. FHP won't/can't have anything to do with it. Can you say: MANPOWER?
