View Full Version : Phone Tax, Commuter Tax, Turkey Tax....Oh My...

10-15-2008, 08:31 PM
Well now my brothers and sisters, I am just about as agast as you are when my Nextel blew up last night...yes the same one they want me to pay for!...about this issue
After carefully reviewing the memo from the Tangible Fringe Tax Benefits Committee(Whom we were never invited to be a part of and didnt quite knew exsisted), the Executive/Labor/Legal Boards met with our legal team to research the legality/practicality of it. Glaringly off the top they are lumping everyone in a 28% tax bracket to pay for the piece of crap phone....well Im no accountant nor do I know my exact tax bracket so how can I be lumped into that. Yes it is true you can opt out and not pay, but if the Nextel Police catch you using it for personal purposes, you then will be billed. As far as the phones, we have let administration know that our legal is looking into the legality on it and it is on standby mode.
Secondly, the FOP has heard of nothing about taxing us or charging us for insurance. There is case law that does state that you, the employee is repsonsible for yourself driving to/from work and it is advisable to get a rider on your personal insurance to cover yourself. It usually costs around $5.00 month. Also weve heard conflicting stories about this commuter tax as well.
Thirdly....are you kidding me about the turkey money. Monies that have been given out for over 30 years and NOW, they just figured out that it needed to be taxed....I wonder if the CITY is going to have to pay back taxes on it. Even better idea, give everyone a $20.00 gift certificate to Publix....ohh thats right...that would be logical.
I just want everyone to know, we are diligently working on these issues and hope to have an answer for you shortly.
Lastly, I too agree that it was way shi__y for the city to slap us with these taxes/fees after we voted for the gas surcharge. If you have any questions, let us know.

Better yet lets start an active "public campaign advising new hires or wanna be's to stay away from Plantation!" And encourage the five and under to leave, start the job fair again to actively support the junior people to FLEE!!!! while they can... Leave a becon on this town that this is NOT the place to come and work. Unless you are independantly wealthy and bored and just need something to do. Otherwise you will go broke and poor working here under a tight Micro managed top heavy department... For those of you who oppose the argument that we are being treated unfairly, you are either a supervisor and or a suck arse who has no soul!!!!

Joey:

If the mayor wants officers to quit so bad why doesn't she just come out with a buy-out program? Better yet combine it with say a five year vest. Then she'll save all the money she wants without having to beat around the bush...

Between the mayor and Obama we all may be in for some mighty small paychecks!

Just get off the specialized units. Now for the most part I know you guys are doing the right thing. as for the others its just a way to get every other thursday off. The people who have to respond to an emergency situation be it SWAT or the negotiators, why should you good people have to pay to respond? They cant afford the gas they say, but have money for the new crock pot pressure cooker of an armored vehicle! those pretty brick signs that drunks run into, oh the self issued raise the council voted themselves for, golf course, horsey playground, radio station, TROLLIES!!! HAHAHAHA.
make a stand, make a statement resign from the teams, let them call the county.. Im sure they can afford it with the new taxes from our "perks?" the cities strong mayor system is a old tired Dinosaur system, and your political time clock is ticking to its end. We are ripe for a change, and someone should let Broward County officials in on that. Time to call the Sheriff!

As a citizen of the city of Plantation all I have to say is one thing...
...
...
WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!

You guys and girls complain A LOT. For Christ's sake you still have your job, which is something that a lot of people can't say. Why don't you pull your collective heads out of your collective a$$e$ and realize that this country is going through a financial crisis? Everybody else is having to tighten their belts a little...why can't you all?
I think that we can all agree that your take home cars are a huge expense to the city, but you still have them and if they are in your contract then so be it...but you're going to complain when the city wants you to pay for the gas that you use to and from work? I have to drive my own car and use my own gas to work everyday and nobody gives a sh!t, so maybe you should look at it as a glass is half full kind of thing and realize that you don't have to drive a personal vehicle to work and that you are getting the BENEFIT OF A FREE CAR!
And did I read that you have cell phones too? Must be nice...if you are using them for personal reasons then you should pay for it. If you need to make a personal phone call, get a personal cell phone!
One last thing, to the guy that was complaining about having to buy his own gear, that's pretty common once you hit the age of 5 and lasts until you die. Anywhere you go you're gonna have to buy your own supplies...get used to it!

Now that I've thoroughly p!ssed you all off, I guess I'm done. Please don't try to threaten me or *gasp* make fun of me because we all know that nobody has any idea who I am or where I'm at.... ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!!!

Sincerely,

go f**k yourself!

LOL...I love how you girls try to make fun of me! No I didn't get too many tickets when I was a teenager...I was wayyyy too smart to get caught by the police. You should be proud that you are working for $40,000 a year on my taxes...that's about all you are worth, but no you aren't protecting me. I think that between my dogs and guns I do a pretty good job of that myself, but if I ever need a report written I'll make sure to call you. I hear that you guys had some problems with that a while back but I also heard that you took some classes to improve...lol. I'll bet that you are one of those guys with little man syndrome huh? You feel big and bad when you drive around in your shitty crown vic? You're just a pathetic loser!

Yes I do, she thinks you are as useless as I do.
Yeah I'll tell you my address to prove I'm a tax paying citizen...duh...while I'm at it I'll also give you my ssn, credit card numbers and mother's maiden name. Do you really think I'm as stupid as you are? Did you mean I'll and whiz? I'm not really sure if the last part is English, but if it is try again.

WAIT !!!!!!!! isnt the city tax EXEMPT ????? we all need to organize and show the city were not taking this crap lightly.......yeah we got some "perks" but at the same token we DO NOT GET what other agencies get from day one.......just a few things that come to mind:

1. decent cars
2. equipment
3. weapons
4. oppurtunities to advance
5. use of our vehicles for personal use (like our fire chiefs who pick up their children at American Heritage as we stand there and direct traffic)

C'mon now this is ridiculous........how much is our FOP gonna let the city bully us....where is the union if it doesnt take a stance and stand up for us ??? we need to look around and be like the bigger agencies around and draw a line....we offered to supplement fuel costs (which was dumb by the way) and now our kindness is a weakness and were paying....The guys leaving soon dont care, we that are stuck here due to "time" need to take charge and make a point.....

Citizen: If you have enough time and passion to write on this board then why aren't you writing or calling the city council to express to them that you as a tax payer demand to know why your taxes aren't going to YOUR police department? You should also ask them why YOUR police departments budget is constantly being slashed, equipment can never be afforded and why the city feels the need to tax YOUR officers. While you are there you could also ask them where all the millions they save on not having a fire department go...

MAYBE THIS IS A BIG LESSON FOR ALL OF US. THERE IS NO GOOD FAITH WHEN DEALING WITH THE CITY. GUYS TRIED THIS YEARS AGO WITH THE CHIROPRACTIC /MESSAGE (HEALTH CARE) ISSUE CAME TO LIGHT WITH THE CITY. NOW OUR BROTHERS AND SISTERS VOTED TO PASS THE TAKE HOME POLICY, AUTHORIZING THE CITY TO START CHARGING US. JUST LIKE TAXES, NOW THAT IT IS IN PLACE, THIS WILL NEVER GO AWAY. REST ASSURED THIS WILL ONLY INCREASE AND IT WILL BE A BIG ISSUE ON THE CITY'S PART COME CONTRACT TIME.

DO YOU THINK THE TIMING FOR THE PHONE TAX & TURKEY MONEY IS REALLY COINCIDENTAL? WE OPENED OUR OWN PANDORA'S BOX. MAYBE WE WILL WALK AWAY FROM THIS A LITTLE SMARTER SO WE WONT LET THEM PULL THE WOOL OVER OUR EYES NEXT TIME.

1st. I don't have a daughter but I had yours along with your wife last week. They both said that it was nice to finally see a real man.
2nd. I'm happy the taxes don't go to the police department. Like I said you girls are almost completly useless, if I need a report written I'll give you a call. Otherwise, I'll handle things myself.
I'd be pretty happy if they taxed you even more...maybe they should make you buy your own vehicle too...lol.

Funny thing about the Fire Department. You see while we have always been a burden to the City of Plantation they have always been the darlings of the City. So why is it whatever they choice to have they get? Whatever we want we have to fight for and more often then not don't get? Okay so all of us that are on call and required to carry a nextel and are no being taxed for it let's look at the fire department? I know it's not the same but are they being taxed for their pagers? I don't thinkn so? You think that something as absurd as that would ever take place? Why is it that we are now being asked to pay for a fuel stipend for our cars? Do our counterparts in the fire department do that? Why is it they can have anybody them want in their car unlike us? Just some food for thought for you. By the way don't worry about who I am I will give you a hint I dont carry a nextel nor pay for a city car but I do carry a free pager.

Nope!!! Wrong again, twice. Never got a ticket and not an excop. Like I told you I'm way to smart to do either of those things. I get paid more in the private sector. I guess it sucks to be you huh? I can tell you to go f**k yourself to your face and you can't do jack schitt about it? LOL oh well tough schitt.
