Newtown needs more than talk from city police

Just because we live in Newtown doesn't mean that we are simple people. Just because we live in Newtown doesn't mean that we can be fooled easily either. The city commissioners and Police Chief Peter Abbott obviously think otherwise.
We have had three killings and a bunch of shootings and stabbings recently. I hear gunshots just about every night. I worry about the safety of my grandchildren. I know that this neighborhood can be hard to manage. We can be our own worst enemy. I see the young cops at night doing the best they can. On the other hand, I see Abbott and Police Capt. Bill Spitler walking down Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Way, being politicians.
What does walking up and down the street do? Nothing.
They talk about a new day in Newtown. I don't see it. We live here. We know the truth. And Fredd Atkins needs to stop hobnobbing with the Red Sox and start worrying about his neighborhood. Maybe we need a new commissioner up here.
