IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) _ Iowa City police say they didn't have much trouble finding a man accused of using a stolen credit card — he signed his own name to the receipts.

Police said the man used the stolen credit card to buy a latte at a coffee house and to buy cigarettes at a tobacco store. Police said the credit card was reported stolen from an unlocked apartment last month.

They said the man also tried to use it at another store, but the card was declined because it came up as stolen. He also used the card at a local deli.

He has been charged with four counts of unauthorized use of a credit card.

Salt Lake City police say Ronald Wayne Lindsley's decision to ram the man with his car was excessive.

Police say the 61-year-old Lindsley was working at a Salt Lake City gas station when he saw a man take two beers and leave the store without paying. Police say he chased the suspected thief, who was riding a bicycle, and hit him.

The suspected thief suffered a sprained ankle, scrapes, bruises and a bump on his head.

Prosecutors have charged Lindsley with third-degree felony aggravated assault, and a warrant has been issued for his arrest. Court records show no charges have been filed against the alleged thief.

Reached at his Salt Lake City home Thursday, Lindsley said he hasn't hired an attorney and didn't know about the warrant. He declined further comment.

It is a good thing that the police had detected at once the thief. He must be jailed for what he had done. Credit cards should always be put in a safe place even when we are at homes.
