A man wanted for allegedly assaulting a Punta Gorda police officer has been arrested.
Police say 28-year-old Christopher Straw of Port Charlotte attacked Officer Caswell Coley on June 16th.
Officer Coley was on routine patrol in the Burnt Store Isles subdivision when the attack happened. He was knocked unconscious and treated for a head injury at Charlotte Regional Medical Center.
Police say a citizen gave them information on Straw. Officer Coley reportedly identified Straw as his attacker.
Straw is currently being held at the Sarasota County Jail on unrelated charges. He is being transported to the Charlotte County. He's being charged with battery on a law enforcement official and will be held on $100-thousand dollars bond.
