Deputy's Prayer by Kitty West (Seminole Co SO)

Lord, I come on bended knee
And ask that you forever be with me,
I pinned this star upon my chest,
with the vow to always do my best.

Lord, I pray for strength and wisdom,
Let me do whatevers right,
Lord, take my hand and guide me,
through the day and through the night.

Lord, just stand beside me,
Let me pass the test,
Let me bring peace anf harmony,
Where there is unrest.

May I never use my weapon in anger,
May I never take a life,
Give me the courage and foresight,
To put an end to strife.

But should the time come,
That I may have to make that call,
Lord, please let the record show,
I did it standing tall.

I need to know your with me,
I need to know your there,
I need to feel the touch of your hand,
I need to know you care.

Let your spirit be with me,
Let us be as one,
And when my star is laid to rest,
You'll say, "Job well done".

Rest in peace Deputy, our thoughts and prayers are with your family and fellow deputies.[/b]

This has been a terrible week in Florida for all law enforcement. My thoughts and prayers go out to Deputy Forgione's family and the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office. I was sent the following when Officer Widman was shot and killed. I found it to be very true and inspiring. I hope that some of you may find some confort in the message as well.

Cop on the take

First he takes ... the oath.
Now look at what else he takes:

He takes... it in stride when people call him pig.
He takes... his lousy pay check realizing he'll never be rich.
He takes... a second job sometimes to make ends meet and support his family.
He takes... time to stop and talk to children.
He takes... your verbal abuse while giving you a ticket you really deserved.
He takes... on creeps you would be afraid to even look at.
He takes... time away from his family to keep you safe.
He takes... your injured child to the hospital.
He takes... the graveyard shift without complaint because it's his turn.
He takes... his life into his hands daily.
He takes... you home when your car breaks down.
He takes... time to explain why both your headlights have to work.
He takes... the job no one else wants--telling you a loved one has died.
He takes ...criminals to jail.
He takes... in sights that would make you cry. Sometimes he cries too, but he takes it anyway because someone has to.
He takes... memories to bed each night that you couldn't bear for even one day.
He takes... time to explain to his family why he can't make the ball game his child is in and why he has to work on the holiday when other parents are off.
Sometimes, he takes a bullet.
And yes, occasionally he may take a free cup of coffee.
If he is lucky, he takes retirement.
Then one day he pays for all he has taken, and God takes him.

Rest well our brother, God bless you Deputy Forgione, you have done your job now it's time to be at peace.

Ret. Major Nancy Olon

Here is a letter written a very long time ago to a Mrs. Bixby, who lost her sons during the Civil War.

Executive Mansion,
Washington, Nov. 21, 1864.

"Dear Madam,

I have been shown in the files of the War Department a statement of the Adjutant General of Massachusetts that you are the mother of five sons who have died gloriously on the field of battle.

I feel how weak and fruitless must be any word of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save.

I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom.

Yours, very sincerely and respectfully,

Abraham Lincoln"

To Mrs. Anthony Forgione and tony's family, Sheriff Charlie Morris and the rest of the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office, May God strenghten you during this very sad time. Tony, rest easy old friend. Look over us with a steady sword for we wil meet again.
