View Full Version : Done Deal?

04-15-2008, 09:48 PM
Well the more I look around, the more it appears this PBSO thing is really going to happen, and wow there are many job titles changing already. Good luck to everyone and this ride has been interesting, at the least.

04-15-2008, 11:25 PM
I am still convinced it is not going to occur. I believe the Chief us just consolidating power. Has other people left the department? I think it would have been nice to make an announcement about the Major leaving. I guess it is more of the same, The Chief, Cafaro and Walton never share information nad now with John stopping we will only be able to add to rumors.

04-16-2008, 10:54 AM
I know plenty of PBSO Officers and I have nothing but respect for you guys. I have been a cop in another state and here on this department SRO for awhile. I would not mind the merger. I like to work with a positive department. The officers I have spoke to enjoy the PBSO the moral seems to be great. This department has no moral and everyone is just *****ing about everything. I have done my job know matter what kind of rumors have been spreading around. I hope those of us that could care less about the merger are welcome to the PBSO as any other police officer.

[quote="Dazed and Confused"]I am still convinced it is not going to occur. DREAMWORLD-

-Chief is taking over another position, because he just doesnt have enough to do as Chief of Police (nothing to do with securing a job when PBSO comes in)
-Officers at the District currently processing with PBSO have had their ap.'s frozen (maybe because PBSO is going to take over)
-Johnson MEETS with Bradshaw to crunch numbers about a merger, Bradshaw meets with the media; news articles and an interview with a local news station happen, just because Bradshaw has nothing better to do (This will result in a MERGER)
-Johnson is glowing with positive reviews by his evaluators, what you wants he gets! If he wants PBSO its a done deal. ACCEPT it!
Go with it, deal with it! Then go work at the courthouse or the airport with all the other retired guys. It wil not be that bad. THE SCHEDULE WILL NOT DIFFER BY MUCH!!!!

For the last poster, under the name of "Changeo." Make sure you do your homework before you start encouraging your peers to go to places and work with "all the other retired guys." You obviously do not get over to those venues all that often because your perception couldn't be more inaccurate.

I can say that I, as a GreenGuy, and for all the GreenGals, we would welcome you all to the family over here. We have an outstanding Sheriff, and being in local LE for the past 27 years, this agency is second to none here in PBC.

Just be patient and let the process take its course. I believe it is going to happen, and I can assure you that it will be worth the wait. For those that are unsure about the merger, that's okay as it is completely normal to feel that way. It will not take very long to make them believers that they will now belong to an outstanding agency, run by an outstanding leader and support staff. The leader, here, genuinely cares about the people in the organization. I cannot say any of this about the "current" chief. Our Sheriff only has a masters degree, but he does not need a law degree to prove that he is an effective leader and capable of running an agency of 4,000+ people.

We will be waiting for you to go 10-97.

{Work at the airport}
Well changed it seems like you have all the answers. Why? do you have to put another brotherhood. This stuff on here is like a myspace with the kids without pictures. Things need to stay on track. PBSO officers didn't vote us to come to their department so why are some of you putting them down. What do they have to do with it. Everything right now is he said she said with AJ and everyone else concrned. I am sure alot of SRO's do not want to go green but I dont think saying things about there departmant and putting them down is the way to go. Lets see what happens there has been nothing writtten in stone. The world has enough issues without us with a badge not getting along.

04-18-2008, 11:48 AM
You are an idiot. The Sheriff and Dr. J have not met, they have exchanged one phone call. The SO has not been given financial numbers either which is why in the news reports you say are cause for a merger celebration, the Sheriff says that he has not put a bid together because he cannot bid on something without knowing the numbers. Also no ones applications have been frozen. If you were half as smart as you think you are you would know to shut your mouth quit calling people out and just wait and see. Just because one wants to stay blue does not equate a fear of green or being on the road. I would welcome either staying or going. I think both bring positives to us as officers.

04-19-2008, 05:29 AM
I love how all of you call eachother names for expressing their thoughts. Anyways, you see the letter from AJ about the future and the budget cuts??? We shall see what happens to our PD, we are so out the door. Read that letter and you will feel the same.

04-19-2008, 12:56 PM
You all need to be treating each other with a little more respect than you are showing to each other. This "name calling" stuff isn't going to take you anywhere from a positive standpoint.

This is a time to put your agendas aside and stand united as this impending change takes place and you all transition from blue to green.

I don't want to see anymore of this "punkin out" of one another from this point forward.

First off, Johnson was just selling wolf tickets in an effort to bust the chops of the union guys. Now, to be retired from one agency and now employed with the School District,... that's where I wanted to be and that's where I want to stay. Go GREEN!!, NOT!!, even though you guys talk about the take-over as if when it happens that you're just going to stay on your regular shifts. Come on let's be honest,...you and probably every other deputy would be gunning for a school position. Not to mention the days off. 12 months or a little over 200 days. I chose and choose the "200 Days". Oh, did I mention knowing that you will ALWAYS be off regular duty before night falls and every weekend would be free, unless you wanted to work some really hard, Ooops!!,.. I meant really easy OT. We AIN'T going green, we don't need to work at the airport nor do we need to work at the courthouse. We'll still utilize the airport for those holidays that we KNOW we'll have off and we also try to stay away from the courthouse as much as possible due to the fact that they mostly operate during the hours of school. Now, that's a waste of time when you can't get paid for it. So to remedy the situation, we try our hardest to work nice clean cut cases with the utmost importatnce and attention being exhibited while conducting investigations. GREEN!! WHO?? Not me said the retired retard!!

If you are so wanting to waste away, waste away selling computers for best buy. This PD needs direction, and you are helping it go in reverse. Remember the half that do not have a pension. Do you not want more? more for everyone? You can easily make the same elsewhere with the same schedule. I cant wait for the SO to come in and your out on your ear where you belong. You have taken advantge of the system too long. And if you come along for the ride when the SO does take over, you will stay where you are, train during the summer, work only when school is in session, get a pay raise, and a car. Even a retired guy cant turn that down, unless you cant make the cut due to not being physically fit. OH and dont forget, most of us here dont make it to the airport because we dont have the money since the District has screwed us for the past 20 years (while people like you let it happen).

I’ve talked to many of you and some guys have discussed this so much that they can’t tell the difference between what is truth and what is an old fart’s fantasy . It’s like talking to middle school kids . The mighty PBA has been behind most of the rumors , just like here at the middle school , when you start looking for facts , you don’t find them . You just hear : it’s true because officer so and so said it . The spring break news leak was a calculated move by the PBA . The Sheriff could not lie , because the phone call happened and the PBA knew that AJ was out of town and could not respond . Everything else , is just guys saying what if so much that they start to believe that it is reality . I could careless what happens , but it’s funny reading about how smart you guys are . Go to the meeting and in the middle of the fired up bull crap , ask who leaked the phone call ? It wasn’t AJ (he was out of town) and the Sheriff had nothing to gain . So , what’s the plan ? Do you want to wear green or blue ? The answer is , it’s not up to you ! AJ and the Boyz (Board) have the only say . See you on the road ! Dummies !

04-21-2008, 08:55 PM
In a wierd way I like the bus driver, and agree WITH ONLY ONE THING he/she stated. It is out of our hands, its up to AJ and his crew, and I think it will happen, and hope it does!

04-29-2008, 06:20 PM
John didn't stop writing...he just changed his name.

04-30-2008, 01:45 PM
Now that there seems to be a 30 million dollar short fall AJ may not have a choice besides a merge. We will wait until July 1 when the real budget comes in. It would be nice to know before we go on summer break if we are coming back blue or green.

04-30-2008, 09:00 PM
YEEPIE!!! I so cant waint for it to happen...the department is classified as a "sinking ship" Out with the old in with the green!

We should know before July 01, since that is the 1st day of the new fiscal year. The District has to have a balanced budget whether they raid the reserve fund, or make cutbacks, or contract services.

Well, I "heard" or maybe "seen" that certain schools are putting numbers together in reference to Officers, hours, and types of events they have worked for the past two years. This so called audit was explained as a people soft update?? In addition the request came from the DAC. Didnt make sense to me, but who am I. I see this as a way to figure out spending reference cut backs that could result in a merger or cutting corners with the department the next fiscal year. Makes sense to anyone? not a grasshopper?

Leases are a pass-through, however what can be used to deceive the public is when AJ says that they paid someone, for example, $10,000 in overtime. How much of that is simply pass-through from the leasee > school > District > officer? Some of middle schools are using admins instead of cops to cover events. The admin has direct control of the students and can administer consequences, but what do they do when an adult when an adult challenges them? They either wait for one of the Foxtrot units or hope the locals aren't tied up in their own emergency. I kid one of my admins (a good guy who is pro-police) when he tries to keep the cars moving at dropoff and pick-up, about "What are you going to do when the driver won't move and shoots a bird at you?" We both know what would happen if a driver tried this with a uniformed officer.

NOTHING

Well, well, well. Another email from AJ about the budget. I actually think a merger is going to be his only option. Something is going on and we will be the last to know. Two emails about budget cuts, the District can save money if they contract police service, PBA wants AJ and his cronies OUT, what seems to be AJ's options? Atleast we are getting updates from the PD and our top heavy administration (NOT).

05-11-2008, 03:42 PM
So I heard there were some suits from PBSO at a couple of schools last week, (in the pretty schools that is) hmmmmmm. Could this be the calm before the storm? I dont think the idea of going green is dead yet. This should be an interesting summer.

05-12-2008, 02:46 AM
Dream on. The Green Dream is just that a dream. Not even a wet one for that matter. You are and will be School Police Blue unless you decide to leave of course.

You are in a dream world if you dont think that a merger is NOT possible. From an economical standpoint its a go for sure. Its all up to AJ, and we all know AJ is not fond of the Chief, and would probably use any excuse to oust him. Lets say AJ talks to your friends, the principals, and he explains the following: "We need to save money, therefore you and your schools budget are going to get cut significantly!!!! Unless, we contract our police with PBSO, AND THAN we can save 5 million, plus I can give all of you, the Principals a bonus, another AP, or 2 more teachers.....you pick what you want, and by the way, you will keep the Officers you have at the school, but they will be just wearing green! Dont think this is not plausable.........We will be the last to known, but just stay open minded.

Adding teachers may not be the thing. Keeping them from defecting to Broward (especially ones that already live there or on the border) may be a more realistic goal. A rookie teacher + benefits comes to about 50K. Each million $$ = only 20 additional teachers. Spreading those millions around to remain competitive is more realistic. Broward already pays their teachers more than we do.

05-13-2008, 11:24 AM
I have an open mind. I would love to go green. I also am happy in blue. It brings out my eyes. We do not know if fincacially ti makes since for the district to contract us out because Dr. J has not allowed the PBSO to see the numbers so he can put a proposal together. Until those numbers are exchanged nothing is going to happen. Besides, If Dr. J gives up control there will be a lot of teachers, administrators, ect.. getting arrested instead of promoted to the DAC....

05-13-2008, 04:32 PM
So you are going to get a raise, car and the same schedule. You guys are dreaming....remember that the monies come from the district....PBSO is a great agency...but you will NOT get the schedule you have now....never in a million years....whats in it for the Sheriff....166 bodies 365 days a year....car ...from where....(except for the line car you will be given when school is out to patrol in)...the monies again come from the district....raise....why ?...because you are now wearing green?....gee...the budget comes from the district...PBSO will not be able to contribute money...they are short now....oh and that "hard" OT you get now ...it will be given to Contract Services and put out to all D/S.....I dont get those of you that want to go and wear green....go....its easy and those that have are happy and did the right thing for themselves and their families....

Its obvious you dont understand "contracts" and dont lie to yourself and think you do. If the school police contract police to the SO, they pay them a certain amount for service in the contract!!! So its up to PBSO to fullfill their obligation and believe it or not contracts take priority to unincorporated, because it is a binding agreement!! Also you will be a PBSO deputy assigned a school, just like a deputy is assigned a zone in a district, Your district is a school, the contract states each school has a n officer, this takes priority and this is your responsibility, just like the traffic unit handles traffic, and the patrolman handles calls for service in his zone. There are soooo many ways to make it work, its all on how you write the contract. PLUS did you know if you work for PBSO in an assignment without a car you get a 5% increase in pay? Also do you know the opportunities you have at PBSO? Everyone is soo afraid to push a sled on midnitghts. Thats not going to happen! You could go to work in the courts, the airport, anywhere you want DB, evictions, SCHOOLSGreen is the way to go!

05-13-2008, 09:44 PM

From personal experience regarding details at schools @ former dept: When annexation OT eventually dried up after a few years, officers who shunned details now needed them since their family finances no longer had the guaranteed OT each pay period. They voted in a detail system similar to PBSO's. School detail problems arose quickly. The master key that the SRO has belongs to the School District. The principal is responsible for the key and only the person authorized by him/her can have it. Only those in the SRO program had the keys. We had games wherein none of the officers working it had a key, so they could not open the locker room for the visiting team, or take the officials to their dressing room, or take the band parent to the schools vault to make the money drop, etc. Officers showing up for lease details like churches, or Judo championships had no way to open the gym or theatre or turn on the lights, etc. There was a quick exemption to the detail policy that covered the SROs.

As for non-school days, thats when officers used their vacation, comp, flex, holiday, or admin time. During the summer, if their school had summer school, they worked it. If they didn't want to use up all/some of their time, they were assigned to the PAL, or worked as backups in the patrol zones that their school's boundaries covered since they were dealing with the kids and their families everyday and had a good rapport with them.

05-13-2008, 10:06 PM
AJ its time to cut ties and let us out.

05-14-2008, 12:07 AM
Thank you Sgt, for that information. I reepect you taking the time to tell everyone like it is. As an Officer its normal to fear change, but this PD is in need of CHANGE ASAP! In addition keep in mind that you still have to account for training hours, therefore training could be done in the summer, on days, Mon-Fri. Then use your vacation time and then go to DB for acouple weeks before you head back to school. This PBSO thing is really the way to go!

05-14-2008, 03:06 AM
Here's a little dose of what you green dreamers need REALITY. Yes you will be going green, when you apply and hopefully get accepted. I suggest you dreamers go see your personal physicians so that he may write you a prescription for Cymbalta because you will be needing it when you realize that your green dream is a fantasy. If you want to be green so badly why are you here waiting around, just go. You knew what this job entailed when you were hired if you didnt then you are a fool. Yes we ALL could use more money but the reality is the District is not going to give it to us. The PBA could employ all of the childish tactics they want but the bottom line is it will get us NOTHING. Why dont you try to make this department a better place since you are currently here instead of wishing you were somewhere else. All this bullshi@t needs to just come to a rest you are NOT going to the SO, dream up all the scenarios you want if it makes you feel better the bottom line when everything is said and done is you WILL be wearing BLUE.
