Many years ago, a great hitter named Paul Waner was nearing the end of his long career. He entered a ballgame with 2,999 hits, one hit away from the landmark total of 3,000, which so many hitters want to reach, but which relatively few actually do reach.

What reminded me of this is the great fervor that many seem to feel over the prospect of the first black President of the United States.



No doubt it is only a matter of time before there is a black president, just as it was only a matter of time before Paul Waner got his 3,000th hit. The issue is whether we want to reach that landmark so badly that we are willing to overlook how questionably that landmark is reached.



Paul Waner had too much pride to accept a scratch hit. Choosing a President of the United States is a lot more momentous than a baseball record. We the voters need to have far more concern about who we put in that office that holds the destiny of a nation and of generations yet unborn.



There is no reason why someone as arrogant, foolishly clever and ultimately dangerous as Barack Obama should become president, especially not at a time when the threat of international terrorists with nuclear weapons looms over 300 million Americans.



Many people seem to regard elections as occasions for venting emotions, like cheering for your favorite team or choosing a Homecoming Queen.



The three leading candidates for their party's nomination are being discussed in terms of their demographics, race, sex and age, as if that is what the job is about.



One of the painful aspects of studying great catastrophes of the past is discovering how many times people were preoccupied with trivialities when they were teetering on the edge of doom. The demographics of the presidency are far less important than the momentous weight of responsibility that office carries.



Just the power to nominate federal judges to trial courts and appellate courts across the country, including the Supreme Court, can have an enormous impact for decades to come. There is no point feeling outraged by things done by federal judges, if you vote on the basis of emotion for those who appoint them.



Barack Obama has already indicated that he wants judges who make social policy instead of just applying the law. He has already tried to stop young violent criminals from being tried as adults.



Although Senator Obama has presented himself as the candidate of new things, using the mantra of 'change' endlessly, the cold fact is that virtually everything he says about domestic policy is straight out of the 1960s and virtually everything he says about foreign policy is straight out of the 1930s.



Protecting criminals, attacking business, increasing government spending, promoting a sense of envy and grievance, raising taxes on people who are productive and subsidizing those who are not; all this is a re-run of the 1960s.



We paid a terrible price for such 1960s notions in the years that followed, in the form of soaring crime rates, double-digit inflation and double-digit unemployment. During the 1960s, ghettoes across the countries were ravaged by riots from which many have not fully recovered to this day.



The violence and destruction were concentrated not where there was the greatest poverty or injustice but where there were the most liberal politicians, promoting grievances and hamstringing the police.



Internationally, the approach that Senator Obama proposes, including the media magic of meetings between heads of state, was tried during the 1930s. That approach, in the name of peace, is what led to the most catastrophic war in human history.



Everything seems new to those too young to remember the old and too ignorant of history to have heard about it.

Obama and his wife have both been quoted and been on tape by news stations of their beliefs and their words about others. The really sad thing about this is people like you that believe any load of crap that someone like them say. When anyone points out these things i.e. quotes from his book or quotes from her thesis it is met with the racism card. Anytime a white person says any truths regarding a person of color it's on. As a veteran and public servant I have served in several countries and currently serve the citizens that I swore to protect. I am an advocate that the President of United States should have a military back ground.

Colon Powell is a proven leader and icon. If he were running in this election I would vote for him. Not because he is black or republican, but because he is what a president should be.

During my law enforcement career I have attended numerous diversity classes that advocate (by the black instructor) that if one (white) says there best friend was black they are a racist, if you say boy or them people you are a racist, and finally if Obama is not patriotic you are a racist. Based on the above I am to assume by your standard I am categorized as a racist. All along I just thought I was your everyday Forrest Gump.

I'm a Democrat. I believe if you make less than 100K a year, and you vote Republican, you're just helping the rich stay rich. I was a Republican for 27 years before I figured that one out. With that said, I'll tell you why I'm NOT voting for Obama. When he first began to run, I was genuinely encouraged. He is a very fit, attractive candidate. He presents himself very well, he's articulate, intelligent, and he's charismatic. So I began listening to what he had to say. I thought, "maybe this great country finally has a presidential candidate worth putting in the Oval Office.

Sadly, he has proven to be no better than the rest of the pack. Last year, I heard him giving a speech to a large gathering in Selma, Alabama. The occasion was a celebration of the Birth of the Civil Rights Movement, which began in Selma. Obama told a story about how his parents met at that historic event, fell in love, and he was conceived there and then. The crowd loved the story. The only problem was, it was all a lie. Obama was 4 years old at the time the Selma march took place.

Obama lied about a small thing, a thing that could easily be disproved, a thing there was no good reason to lie about. He did it with ease and conviction. Now, I'm jaded enough to know ALL politicians lie. But he's running for the highest office in the world, and he lied about how he came to be...all for votes. If he will lie about something so insignificant, then I know he'll lie about something big. So he lost my vote that day. Oh, I still pay attention to him, but for much different reasons. What I have learned is that he's a "talking suit". He sounds good, and looks good, but he's not really saying anything. He talks about "change". Well, I've seen plenty of change in my time. That doesn't mean it's all been good.

Obama is weak on all the things that concern me as a tax payer, a citizen, and as a parent who's child will have to survive in the society we are creating. Obama's inexperience doesn't concern me. He's unproven, and that concern keeps me awake at night. I fear people are sheep. He talks a great line, but doesn't have the conviction to hold to his promises. People looking for something "new" seem too eager to follow him blindly.

The media has controlled this election from day one. The media has been telling us who we want in the White House, because it fits the media's agenda. They will get far more story mileage out of Obama than any other candidate. They don't want him elected because he'll make the best president. They want him elected because he'll produce the most headlines for them, and people seem to be happy to be lead down the road they're being guilded down. I find that very sad.

As others have mentioned, I too would vote for Colin Power if he would run. I can think of no one better qualified. Unfortunately, he has too much integrity for the job. That's our loss.

Who would vote for a man that does not hold his hand over his heart during the National Anthem. Or how about the fact he refuses to wear the american flag pin on his jacket.
Then his wife says for the first time in her adult life she is proud to be an American????? Are you kidding me I have always been PROUD to be AMERICAN .

Check out the wikipedia entries on both candidates. Sure, both have thier shortcomings as well as accolades, plus some ommissions on who thier associates are and were, but, in these times, it is quite clear whjo would be a better CEO of the country. Wealth redistrobution (socialistic), or promoting small business growth. Someone who has a few months in the senate or years of experience. Sure, one of candidates looks, sounds and appears to sleek, slim and trim, while the other appears weathered and worn. One candidate promotes permament tax cuts to ensure economic growth while the other wnats you to depend on government 'entitlements' , because you 'deserve it', because of the evil tax cuts.

Think about this, who would you rather have on reins of a huge corporation, someone who has been with the company for many years, serving in many capacities of the same, or someone recently joining that company?

The choice is clear freinds. The choice is clear. Remember, the Pied Piper was also very convincing, smooth character.

I can say that with this upcoming election I will be voting the same way I have in years past -- for the person who convinces me that he will harm this country the least. It was bound to happen regardless of the true topics, and by that I mean this election has turned into a black/white issue. If Obama wins there will still be millions of lazy people ( black & white ) sitting on their butts, demanding the rest of the tax paying world " US " support them through section 8, welfare, medicare taken out of our checks ect.. And if Mccain is elected we will have at least four more years of what we have now. So go have more "churn's" you cant support cause ill do that for you and save the welfare $$$ and buy you some 24's" to go on your ride. I'm writing in Sheriff Judd for president.

Ps. was anybody shocked by the "indictment" of the Haines city Police Chief ? And how many arrests does BSI make every month on prostitutes/johns ect ?? regardless of the number, notice I said ARRESTS not indictments / Nta's ?

From my understanding of the Muslim religion, one must change thier birth names to join. Good examples are Casious Clay (muhammed ali), Lew Alcindor (kareem abdu-jabbar), are but two of many high profile people who converted to islam in the sixties. I also have heard the same as the above entry. But i am sure these documents, if they so exist, will supressed by the press and the campaign until after the election. There is alot we do not know about mr obama. he talks a smooth talk and walks a good walk. To me, he is a wolf is sheep's clothing ... Beware. By the it was nice for the obama campaign to refuse questions about thier wealth redistro plan, and get away with it. You think the GOP could have done that in this climate? i think not....

Allow me to clarify a few things here. Barry Soetoro, aka Barak Obama, we know little about. Yes it was an historic election, no doubt about it. Matter of fact he is kinda Reagan-esque (Michal, Reagan was the 40th president in the 80's), and one of the best i might add. Barrybama is smooth in talk and action as Reagan, however, lightyears in difference philosophical-wise. Look those words up if there's an issue. There is dispute on whether he was born in Kenya (thats in Africa) or in Hawaii. His mother was American, but father Kenian. There has been talk about Barrybama being Kenian, which, if true, would disqualify him from the presidency, due to one has to be born IN America to be eligiable for the presidency. From what I read, this maybe an issue, due to a certain document (birth certificate) being either sealed, or "unavailable". i could be wrong on this, but thats one of the many descrepancies swirling out there.
Okay, having said that, a second clarificiation...

From my personal knowledge of real scripture, (bible, not koran ), the Anti-Christ and the Beast are two different and seperate entities that will team up in the end times. (dismiss the myth of the earth coming to an end, it will not). The Anti-Christ will emerge from the EU, European Union, which of course was created in the early 90's and obviously exists today. (michal, those are group of countries in Europe across the Atlantic ocean, that biiiig body of water off Florida's coast)The Union consists of thirteen countries, representing the old Roman Empire, see your history books on this one sports fans. The flag is already in use (blue with thirteen white stars forming a circle), and its money in place (the Euro) This replaced the german mark, the italian lira, and the british pound, the former major monetary entities. The only exception, the Swiss Franc (CHF).

As stated the Anti-Christ, a real person, will emerge from this EU, to bring a massive message of peace and unity (sound familiar). I dont think this Barrybama, although he maybe, in some perifrial way, involved. the beast is to be a person of faith, who will depart from that faith to team with this 'man of perdition' , to lure the enticed flocks. Millions will gather to see this team. Too scarey a parrellel here folks.

I really could not have put it better myself. Is Obama, or Barry,or whatever his name really is, an American or African? I could never figure that one out. The other 'guest' says African-Amercian which is it? I know we live in a MAJOR PC country here, which is as a cancer to this society, but where does the seperation of allegiance enter? If that be the case, perhaps we can all call ourselves Irish-Americans, German-Americans, or Euro-Americans....
