View Full Version : Serious question

I read the article about the guy on the bike holding a lap top. He was arrested and deputies discovered child porn.

My question is, how do we (law enforcement officers) legally have the authority to go through the files on his computer?

Please, no smart remarks. I just want to become a better Ofc.

Maybe the officers got consent from the guy.

Then you are one dumb S O B.

Read the legal guidelines in the FSS hand book.

Consent............Dee Dee Dee

Hey Newbee, you can do anything you want as long as you have consent.

The article didn't mention anything about consent.

What if the guy did not give consent? Is there another way to get in that computer without his permission?

My guess would be a search warrant based on the fact that he had other people's identification and that computer could be holding other people's information.

I love how I'm immediately considered a moron or newbee. Maybe one day I can be as knowledgable as the two seasoned veterans that replied. Maybe one day I can also make snide remarks at people that I think I'm better then.

This can't be a real Leo..that is not a question you should be asking..you should already know the answer..this must be a civilian...don't give him any answers, let him figure it out.

Wow, you guys are so helpful.

It sounded like Broward LEO ansered his own question on his/her 2nd post.

Doesn't sound like a LEO at all. It's a civilian stirring the pot.

Aside from the obvious it is a "newspaper" article which automatically implies pertinent facts are left out.
