Thought you might like to know how one of your brother officers behaved in Florida!

"why do fhp cops give summons to other cops? I am a nypd cop and one of your females cops in troop B gave me a summons for 79mph in a 70 where is the brother hood?? i gave he all my info and asked for a courtesy with respect, i know how it is and she wanted nothing to do with it. i gave her 0 attaude. i was doing 90 and other cars were going faster than me . i just dont understand i would never summons another cop . I know every cop does speed a little and would except the same if thay were pulled over.. you guys just dont get it! i guess discretion is not used.do thay teach that down there? can someone just eaplain to me how a cop can summons another cop ? I guess its tru what they say about the cops in the south ,thay would summons there own mother if thay stoped her. now if i ever stop a cop from florida (which i know you guys come up here) I will give ZERO discretion!!"

When I come into your backyard, I try to play by your rules and respect your laws. If I screw up, then it is my responsibility and my fault! I will not go on a public forum and abuse, disrepect and whine about your officers!

well us cops up here use a thing called DISCRETION!! if i was him i would be pissed also cops just dont write cops

02-28-2008, 07:25 PM
There was discretion used....the cite was for less than 10 over instead of 20 over which would have cost him a lot more. Also, that speed couold be considered reckless driving.

As for other cars going faster, then what drew the trooper's attention to him?

"... cops just don't write cops" Maybe they should! Are they breaking the law they swore to uphold? What would you do if the cop you just let go for speeding, 10 miles down the road, hit and killed someone because he was speeding again? As for discretion, where do you draw the line? 10mph over? 20mph over? Or, because I have a badge and a car that will do 150mph, that I be allowed to drive 150mph?

And if you turn your head on traffic violations, then will you also turn your head on a fellow cop stealing? If one is discretion what is the second? Where do you draw the line??

Hey brother, sorry for your bad experience here in Fla. I understand how it is up north. You guys really stick together and hold true of "on the job".
Had it been me and the crew I know it would have been "have a nice day"
But for troopers its diffrent, I dont know what there teaching them in academy but they turn them out like Jar Heads... They dont know the code of thin blue line. Ive stop many of troopers in my 20+ years and given them all breaks. But I also give them an earfull. I just cant write a cop. I think maybe you should rethink about giving us a bad rapp just because you got pulled over by an accident investigator with a gun.
Ive had bad experiances with troopers too, most of them are ok, but there ae a % of them that just dont care who you are. And dont listen to others here about ethics, there probably desk jockies who forgot how to be a real cop.
Stay safe

Everyone in their respective agencies might wear the same uniform but not all are the same. I know everyone in their own agency has some idiots that they do not care to work with. As a state trooper in florida I can not even count how many times I have pulled over NYPD or Suffolk County, etc.. from a beat cop to Lieutenant from speeds from as low as 80 to as high as a 100mph. No special reason other than just being on vacation and wanting to get to their destination. I am born and raised in New York as long as you keep it courteous give me the "on the job" deal show me your credentials I let you go asap no problems. All I ask is for any LEO's coming down on vacation here is to respect a state trooper working his zone we dont pull stops for 10 over most of us give 20mph over the limit so if you were stopped you are in the wrong. I apoligize for anybody that was unfairly wrote in my state. I just hope when I come back to visit my family and friends in NY I will get the same help and professionalism that myself and most other LEO's give to you.

I resent some LEO'S in this forum who degrade my department. I rountinely can work a whole county by myself on nights no backup on traffic stops with cars filled with hoods that know they out number you. Cars constantly not slowing down while I'm making stops on major interstates nearly hitting me. We do everything other agencies do. I go to domestics, alarm calls, fights, all other things with pd's and sheriffs offices. Work traffic fatalities, I've seen dead infants, decapitations, cars full of families all dead. Major drug traffic is on highways, drunk driving, road rages, street racing. I could go on but the point is we all are on the same team and everytime we take a 10-8 we risk our lives. So dont say my department is useless because it is just as valuables as all other agencies are.

Hey, at least you were from a whole different state. I work for CPD and I get pulled over by FHP on the Courtney Cambell Causeway for doing 70mph at 2 in the morning. When being pulled over, I never just came straight out and said that I worked for CPD. He asked me when he seen my DL address was the main station. He did let me go without the speeding ticket, but gave me a seatbelt citation. Hey that would've been fine by me....but when I am giving 20+ BOLOs every single weekend for motorcycles stopping traffic so they can drag race and nothing is being done about that, yes..the seatbelt ticket ticks me off!! Thanks FHP....way to stick together.

To; "Trooper in Florida"

Like you, I was born and raised in NY and now a cop in FL. I also worked at NYPD. I have over 30 years "in the biz" and have heard this B.S. my whole career. Years ago, I worked side-by-side with the Troopers and had some good friends. But you have to admit, they have always had the reputation of writing cops more than any other L.E.O. Agency. Guys in my own Dept. have gotten tickets on their way to Disney with their families !!! Yes, they were speeding and in no way am I excusing it. The most important thing to remember is we only have each other. If I'm on vacation and see a Georgia State Trooper on a traffic stop getting his/her ass kicked, I'm gonna stop and help him. I've had to write a couple of cops in my time due to circumstances beyond my control and felt like s*%$ afterword. Unless some cop gives you the biggest attitude on the planet, there's no reason to write him - NONE!!! Don't ever forget: When the citizens need help, they call the police... When the cops need help, we call each other. Stay safe brothers and sisters.

04-13-2008, 03:07 PM
Dont compare writing another LEO a ticket to someone stealing you idiot. 1 has discretion the other doesnt. diiscretion always goes to a brother officer -period. I have been working in Fl. for years, and you dont speak for me. MAYBE cops should get tickets??!!MAYBE you are on the wrong job, we must maintain the courtesy due as we are the good guys and get bashed on many fronts -so ,thats right ,we should stick togeter, so if you dont like it,go sit outside your mothers driveway and write her!!

04-17-2008, 02:05 PM
Please don't get FHP confused with other Florida Local LEs. I too do not understand why they don't use discretion when writing other LE officers tickets, especially when they always relying on municipalities to help them out of a jam...

Thought you might like to know how one of your brother officers behaved in Florida!

AFFIRMATIVE ACTION AND LOW PAY IS WHAT PUSHES NORTHENERS SOUTH. ONCE THAT STOPS, YOU'LL SEE LESS PEOPLE MIGRATING TO YOUR NECK OF THE WOODS.

THATS A BIG AMEN!!

I went to NY during the holidays and my family wanted to see the parade.
But due to the millions, I mean millions of people there for the same reason, we could not get close to see the parade.

I approached a NYPD Cop and told him I was on the job and if he could assist me and my family to cross Times square to get to the other side.

He said that he would take us where ever we wanted, but he will do better than for us.

He said that there is an area already barricaded off from the civilians and it’s just for cops and their families..

I responded “NO F #@^% WAY”..

He said, “Watch and come this way”...

I felt we were being treated like VIP's!!

He escorted us through the crowd and barricades and handed us off to a Sgt.

He asked where we were from and told us to have a great time.

The area reserved for the cops and their family?
Is the island where the Army Recruiter station is in Times Square, right in the middle of the freaking parades path!!

Now that’s taking care of your own.

Remember when you stop cops for civil infractions, especially NYPD treat them good, they will do the same for you...

DUI is a different story..

[b]My NYPD brethren dont lose any sleep over these hillbilly florida cops. They will never shine in comparison to the men or women of NYPD. The problem with these yahoos is that they are trained to be Law Officers by civilians. They go to the local college and take a course in how to be a cop then once they complete the required hours they are allowed to take a State Certification test. Once they past that they could shop themselves around to any department that is currently hiring. Of course they are some great officers down here but you will find they started their careers elsewhere prior to becoming a florida cop. Granted the NYPD has their share of morons but these idiots down here just dont get it.

07-12-2008, 01:16 AM
I'm sorry that you received the summons; however, we have troopers down here that have attempted to stop marked sheriff's cruiser's, and then expect back up from the sheriff's office when it hits the fan. Unfortunately for me, there is no so called bother hood in Florida anymore. I have Never written another cop or another cops family member before and nor will I ever. Stay safe.

07-12-2008, 01:19 AM
just take a look at FHP's site on leo affairs and you'll see what a bunch of lazy a**holes they are. They would write there own mother a ticket if given the chance

I am a FL cop and have to say I would NEVER, nor would anybody I work with, wirte another cop. EVER.

Has a FL cop writtin another cop in the past? I am sure. Will it happen again in the future? Unfortunatly it will. But don't blanket all of us FL cops as being the same as the few idiots who posted on here.

That being said I know that Florida TROOPERS have a reputation for writting other cops; however, I have always had good experiences with FL troopers and can not say if that reputation accuratly reflects the agency.

If a cop writes another cop dont fault the state or the agency. Instead fault the idiot individual who decided to take his job way too seriously.

Be safe up there, brothers.

I AM GREATLY SADDEN THAT OUR FLORIDA STATE TROOPERS DO NOT HAVE THE SAME RESPECT THAT THE NORTHERN STATE OFFICERS HAVE FOR EACH OTHER. I WAS BORN AND RAISED THERE AND WORK DOWN IN FL. Im a Florida Trooper in south Florida and can say I have never written another cop, their wives children or even a doctor or nurse. Its just my thing. I can say that I have numerous friends with NYPD. I have stopped numerous NYPD and only one was curteous. All of the stops were for 20 + in a 70. It seems that NYPD imediatley have attitudes when I stop them. Though I dont write them, just because I wont, none of them seem to appreciate it.
REGAURDLESS, YOU WONT GET A TICKET FROM ME SOWN HERE.

Back in the early Eighties Central and Northern Florida State Troopers would sand bag and stop South Florida Troopers in their marked units as they traveled north on the Turnpike to their training facility in Tallahassee, Florida. While most only lectured their fellow officers, other when as far as to write them. If by any chance you happened to be Hispanic, or Black well lets just say thing were a bit uglier, but that’s another story all together.

Thing have improve quite a lot in the last 25 years with FHP. I can speak for the Troopers in South Florida the great majority will extend curtecy to a fellow LEO as long as there is a respectful interaction. Most of the good old boys have retired, by enlarge the new generations has a different mentality. BUT, beware there still some Winners at a FHP.

A few years ago we had a serious incident with a rooky Trooper name Burgos who elected to write two summons to a City of Miami Lieutenant responding to the scene of a traffic accident involving his son a Miami Dade Police Officer. Under those circumstances, I think I would have offered to drive the emotionally distressed Lieutenant to his destination. Due to his lack of experience, perhaps he could have contacted his supervisor for some words of wisdom in resolving the situation at hand. This Trooper detained our Lieutenant over 20 minutes, wrote him two traffic summons and then allowed the Lieutenant to get back into his private vehicle continue his reckless race to get to his son. Now that was very smart! and it really insured the safety of the Lieutenant and/or any other motorist in his way.

Lieutenant Bello arrived at the Trauma Center only to discover that his son Miami Dade Officer Bello had passed away from injuries received in the accident. Needless to say Trooper Burgos is very popular in South Florida for all the wrong reasons.

I have traveled to NY and NJ I have not been stopped for any reason, but I have interacted with officer who after learning that (as you guys say) “ I was on the Job” I got the royal treatment.

Thank you Guys and Galls God bless all of you, and be carfull in the Northern part of our State.

I hate to say it brother, but your post is extremely hard to read. I know the incident you're speaking of, and that's probably the only reason why I made it through your post. I believe this incident was also captured on video tape, and it portrayed the Lt. as being in the wrong regardless of his predicament.
If I'm also not mistaken, there were some northern Troopers that wrote several Georgia Troopers tickets for speeding on I-75 and 95 while they were in their marked units returning to their State after some training. GSP then began writing tickets to all FHP officers that would make u-turns inside the Georgia state line. Wouldn't you know it, FHP stopped pulling over Georgia State Troopers shortly after.
My point being is that we need to do away with Officers that lack common sense, and do away with the monthly ticket quotas (kindly put as productivity evaluation periods). All in all, as much as the media likes to portray us as bad people, there is less than half of 1% of officers out there that paint a bad image for us. That's a better track record than any profession out there, including being a Politician or a so called "professional athelete". Perhaps your anger is aimed in the wrong direction.
True Cops are becoming a rare breed. True Cops not only let their brothers and sisters pass on their infractions, but also let the common citizen go with a warning. With your one complaint of receiving a ticket, there are 10-20 people who received nothing. While you claim it was a racist stop, there were many others of your same ethnicity that were given a warning for their infraction. You blame the cop for handing you that fine for your wrong doing, and claim that the Officer has erred in writing you that ticket or arresting you. In fact, everything boils down to you putting the blame on someone else for your wrong doing. People like you are the squeaky wheel, and the squeaky wheel tends to get the grease. Thanks to people like you, we will be hiring even worse Officers in the future.
You think it's bad now, keep complaining.

Actually we come to your state to bring you back woods hillbillies into the future and to save you from having to marry your sisters. Before us northeners arrive you people thought incest was accepted behavior.

Never met a Yankee who could last more than 15 seconds in a fight. BOOM they go night night. BOOM they find out saying "You wouldn't last five minutes on the streets of New Yawk!" gets them nowhere but unconscious.

Dropped my share of Ranger fans and Yankee fans when they want to stand up and shoot their big rubbery gums off in my stadium. Most back down when they realize the quiet man is the one to pull their punk card. The blathering on about how they do it up north gets quieted with one swing of the huge python.

I'll place my "punk" card directly in your trembling hand if you'd like. In fact, I have no problems force feeding you the card when I'm done.
You see, I was born a New Yorker. I've spent the majority of my life down south. I see the same skumbagz down here as I did up north. Either way, I only see Americans. If you want to fight me as a fellow American, then so be it. The author of the post you quoted is also a piece of shizzat. Typical banter by yet another worthless American. In fact, I'm so pi$$sed right now, I wanna tear that "punk" card in half shove it up both of your arses.

As an American and a Cop, I'm ready for the alleged @$$ beatin'. Don't be surprised if you find yourselves acting as a team fighting against me.

Bottom line is keep your sorry a$$ in New York. Your not welcome in FLorida, too many of you New York f--k ups have infested Florida like rats. If New York was such a great place why do you all wanna come here? Weather, grow up! The Trooper should have arrested you. Godamn you for puttin him in a position where he did "Give you a break!" YOu didn't deserve it and it has nothing to do with professional courtesy. Once again STFU and stay out of our state

This person clearly is not a cop.

This very well could be a Florida cop. I worked for a southern Florida Sheriff's Office for a while now and I heard these exact words come out of a fellow depuy's mouth. South Florida cops, FHP or not, DO NOT like northerners. These "cops" down here don't know how to be a real cop and run around with cameras pretending to be a cop and then putting it on national tv. It would be great to see some of these scumbag cops go up north and spend a shift with you guys- they would run in a corner to hide and suck their thumbs. Go to the Broward Sheriff's Office message board and see for yourself what kind of immature idiots patrol the streets down here. And they wonder why they get shot and killed so often- because NO ONE likes or trusts them. Corruption, from the sheriff down to the CSA, is at it's best in Florida.

Better yet check out Lee County! Talk about corruption and a a good ol boy system! They just ran 2 Ny brothers out of the agency in March! One of them was the county Cheif! The sheriff (Mike Scott) threw his own chief under the bus for alleged claims of intimidation to a fellow officer( whos daddy happened to work on the board) that happend 7 monthes prior! His brother was forced to resighn and was given a BS polygraph with no results but claimed he lied! Just this week the Newspress news had a breaking story on the real reasons this hillbilly agency SCREWED and violated their rights! These two brothers(Charles and Dom Ferante) were investigating a man by the name of **** Spence who was best friends with sheriff and ran a convenience store in town. It turns out this guy was convicted in 1995 in NY of laundering more than 100 million for the Cali cartel, who at the time were the biggest suppliers of cocaine in the world! Not to mention kidnapping! Imagine that! Ferrante and his brother dicovered the Sheriff made over 400 calls to this felon during his campaign! They set up surveilence at this guys store and the Good ol sheriff had them take it down! month later they were discraced and labled as NY thugs, mario brothers,as acover for a corrupt Sheriff! Over a 4 yr period the Sheriff claimed he was unaware of his crimminal past! Propaganda, and corruption at its best! This is the same sheriff who made the Hussein remark at the Palin ralley back in October of 08!These NY boys were cops who got throw into the cast of Hee Haw!

This Metro Dade Lt was being a racist azzhole and that is the long and short of it. He should be on the porch for conduct unbecoming. That gives all LEO's a black eye. The Lt was all over the news. What a bunch of bullshitz.

You must be Burgos, A Hispanic Lt. being a racist with a Hispanic Trooper? Yeah right. What was all over the news, was the trooper acting like an A-hole. He could have had dispatch call the hospital and verify if it was true or not.
Not all Florida Cops are writing up LEO's, and not all troopers are a-holes. Most troopers are brother/sister cops and use discretion. But the few, color the how all troopers are viewed. And I have used that discretion 3 times with NYPD's finest. Do not let a few, hurt our relations. The bull shitter is the guy who has Bello as a county cop, when he is City of Miami. I am sure the NYPD has it's share of idiots too.

umm...no. Note that the only 2 States in the nation where incest is even legal are New Jersey, and MIchigan. That just about sinks the entire southern/incest stereotype....

As to "discretion", keep that in mind when we come up there, and decide to carry our duty/off duty arms AT ALL TIMES AND PLACES. Unless/until you can/will do that, avoid Florida- go to...Jersey, instead..

To all law enforcement officers of the United States.
If you don't want to get a ticket in Florida or in any other state you visit I suggest
you follow the following advise.

OBEY ALL TRAFFIC LAWS!!!!

Any questions?

I di 30 years in south florida. I never ever wrote another cop, or a retired cop or firefighter. Just didn't do it and never let a rookie in my presence do it either. I put several in cabs and parked their cars safely when they should not have been driving while on vaca. Glad to do it.

What makes you think you should get any benefit at all? Because you have a badge? Doesnt work that way anymore you might call it brotherhood the rest of us call it corruption. Your badge does not grant you any extra privileges. Doing 90 you should have been taken to jail. That's what would have happened to a regular citizen. That's what should have happened to you. I got news for you the public is watching and filming you now. Even that free cup of coffee you get from the corner deli in the morning is corruption. Its a new dawn and your days of acting like this are over. You did it to yourselves you had a good thing going and your greed is bringing all to an abrupt end. Quit your crying and pay your ticket like the rest of us do.

I think the younger FHP troopers must be brain washed in the academy. Some are OK but others aren't. Some Florida troopers write cops, some don't. They don't give shit how fast you go when they need backup however.

I was only stopped once by FHP in one of Florida's famous wide spot in the road speed traps where it drops from 55 to 35 for a 1/2 mile. The trooper who was middle aged pulled me and the car in front of me over together. Funny part was I was a deputy and the other car was a retired NYPD officer. The trooper thought it was funny we were both cops. He even walked back to me and showed me the other drivers NYPD retired ID card. I told him some days it's just hard to do business. He agreed and was smiling when he got back in his car and left us.
