(Last updated: February 25, 2008 5:52 PM)

A Port Charlotte teen was transferred to a juvenile detention center in Fort Myers after fleeing from police officers, possessing a firearm and bringing narcotics into a correctional facility Sunday, the sheriff’s office reports.

Brenton Mitchell Schreer, 17, 4390 block of Conway Boulevard, was originally pursued by a Punta Gorda Police Officer, who observed the driver traveling the wrong way on Marion Avenue, running two red lights and ignoring the lights and siren of his police car.

Schreer was reportedly talking on a cell phone and was traveling at approximately 80 mph in a 35 zone.

Another officer was able to stop the vehicle, where the driver was handcuffed. At this time a small black .22 Beretta handgun fell to the ground, and Schreer began threatening to kill the officers on scene.

After being admitted into a holding cell at the Charlotte County Jail, officers saw Schreer shaking, sweating, groggy and then he urinated on himself. It was later found that he entered the facility with a small clear cellophane wrapper containing two generic pills of Xanax.

Schreer was charged with fleeing to elude, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of narcotics, possession of firearm by a person under the age of 18, a delinquent possessing a firearm, having no driver's license and introducing contraband to a correctional facility.
