Former Opa-locka city manager now a secretary
Posted on Mon, Feb. 04, 2008
Arlington Sands Jr., former Opa-locka police chief and city manager and friend of former School Board member Robert Ingram, has a new job: $40,000-a-year secretary for Miami-Dade School police.
Among his new duties as a ''support specialist'' in the special projects division: preparing payroll, ordering office supplies and arranging meetings.
The new job is a far cry from the 1990s, when Sands skyrocketed from an unpaid reserve officer to police chief to city manager. He agreed to resign in 1999, with a $313,000 settlement payout, amid accusations of financial bungling and mismanagement.
He was given the police job in late December, after Ingram died. Sands had applied unsuccessfully for appointment to Ingram's seat.
Sands, 67, did not return repeated messages seeking comment about his new post.

I wonder what our current support specialists have to say about this? $40,000 a year to start? Has this guy even shown up to work? When was he hired? What does he do?
