Our Radio System

Our radios system sucks. We should have stayed with the county. It's a safety issue and it's just a matter of time till something happens and no one can hear whats going on. I think CBS4 should her what we have to say about our radios. Union Prez, is this something our union can do? Here's the story on Miami Beach's radios system.

MIAMI BEACH (CBS4) ― It may be a case of modern day technology that just doesn't do the job as well as what was used in the old days, but for Miami Beach Police officers, their radio system could be a matter of life or death.

The Miami Beach Police Department had installed a new digital Motorola radio system meant to be better than the analog system they had, but after the system crashed, officers have reverted to using the old system instead, simply because it appears to be more reliable. According to the police union, this could pose a dangerous situation because under the old system there are certain "dead spots" where officers cannot make or receive calls.

Bobby Jenkins of the Fraternal Order of Police thinks it presents a threat.

"It's an officer safety issue," said Jenkins. "It could be that one time that the officer needs help; they don't get it."

The system was Implemented in 2003, and cost $1 million. It was supposed to allow dispatchers, police and firefighters to communicate on more secure digital channels with no dead spots.

Jenkins said the City of Miami Beach has been trying to fix the problem.

"We'd like to see Motorola step it up and fix the problem," he said.

Motorola says they are aware of the problem, but they haven't offered a timetable for when the problem will be fixed.

your right. i work for the county and am sick of hearing about NMB asking for 3-15's 5 minutes after you actually ask for them, or having a priority call that i happen to be strolling past unknowingly. There could be a damn shootout going on down the street and we wont even know about it until our dispatchers verify the fnckng qth AT LEAST 3 times.That is if our dispatchers actually wait for a response from your dispatchers instead of cutting them off and having to verify it for the fourth time! Im not saying NMB needs to be completely dependant on county for their dispatching, im jealous of NMB's ability to bullshit on the radio, but if shit hits the fan, we need to be patched up. I cant even count how many times I've had NMB booking it, lights and sirens, and have no idea what they're heading to, only to see three or four more cars book it by me, only to find out a couple minutes later they had a bail out or someones asking for 3-15's. That's bullshit! Fnck it! If I'm not busy, i follow them, at least I'll be enroute/arrival by the time everyone else in the county hears about whats going on, (That is if anyone else in the county puts their food down or clears that nonsense 34 to show up) and if it turns out to be bullshit, well, better safe than sorry.

Kickbacks, Trips, golf games, expensive dinners and lunches... and many other things. Talk with JC and CM they along with Aventura are on the hand out machine from Radio company ! Millions spent and not worth it !

Yeah, why don't you guys stop all these emergency calls. Start taking care of business and kicking butt instead of screaming like a bunch of sissys everytime some street urchin tells you to take a flyin fk. Giving you guys radios was a mistake in the first place. Quit complaing and butch up.
