BRADENTON - A city police officer has resigned and could lose his law enforcement certification after he sent naked pictures of himself to female colleagues, according to internal affairs reports.

Bradenton Police Department Officer Alex Arana, an officer since April 2004, left the department on Dec. 26, before the internal investigation was finished.

The report was sent to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, which could yank Arana's police certification over the images.

Officials received an anonymous complaint about the photos in December. They later found that Arana sent a video clip and a photo to the cellular phones of three women: an intern, a dispatcher and a crime scene investigator.

Police say that Arana videotaped himself with his genitals exposed while he wore a SWAT jumpsuit.
But Arana says that the images were meant as a joke, they were not taken while he was on duty and were shared only with his friends.

"It was nothing but a joke," Arana said Wednesday. "What I don't understand is how something that happened off duty, between friends, became such a big deal."

Perhaps he needs a refresher course in workplace sexual harassment. If it was directed at co-workers, even off the clock, it can be sexual harassment.

I hope you are not investigating too many crimes involving this type of act. The photo was unsolicited by the people who received them. If we want to get technical, didn't our dispatcher commit the same offense for forwarding the picture to the crime scene tech? This goes to show, RH did a fine job of leading by example. Thank you chief for keeping up the house cleaning and helping us get our reputation back in due time. We cannot do it with people like this as employee's.

Maybe the old "problem" children were not that bad after all. Careful what you wish for. Most of these people were dismissed because of Hill and his made up violations. It goes to show, what comes around, goes around.

"didn't our dispatcher commit the same offense for forwarding the picture to the crime scene tech"

in the know=the dispatcher did not send it to the crime scene tech...the intern that was there sent it to the CSI employee.

Get the facts straight.....and be careful when accusing people, if your not sure.

Its old. months old. trust me. its only in the paper bc someone had to call and ask why it hadn’t made the front page yet.

and no, the dispatcher, did not send the pictures to anyone, but rather deleted them right away.

I understand people are going to talk about it, I know if I was on the outside I would too, but please, before you state your opinions, please make sure you know the facts to back it up. The IA is closed, so if you're really that concerned about it, please ask for a copy and read it.
I’m not trying to validate what happened, or make myself or anyone else involved look, for lack of a better word, innocent, but i do think this all was blown out of proportion...keep in mind I’m not trying to turn it into a non-issue.
I’m not asking everyone to stop talking about it, I’m not being sarcastic, rude, angry, or anything, I just really hope that before people post, they know what really happened...the news is only going to twist and turn what was said to make people watch/read their product...I just don’t want people to keep expanding their opinion based on the wrong information...

bc after all, why would a dispatcher have a department issued phone?? (see bton herald story).
ok. that’s about it. thanks. :/
