The meathead publicly advocates violating Florida State Law....316.640!! We could lose all traffic court cases as a result. He just can't think before speaking or emailing a brainfart of an idea.

"read the e-mail from the chief....10 tickets a month or else.................. "

20 tickets and we get a free toaster.

I read 316.640 and did not see anything about a quota...it just talks about LEO's and the ability to write citations...can anyone show me what statute or case law has been established that prevents this quota?

316.640(2)

"any agency of the state as described in subparagrah 1 is prohibited from establishing a traffic citation quota"

"violation of this is not subject to penalties described in chp. 318"

** meaning if someone takes a ticket to court no fine!!

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Any bets on how long till the media does a story!

I personally don't care for the quota, however, if I read the statute correctly, it does not apply to county or municipal agencies.

I imagine there is a body of case law on the subject.

Yep, looks like it applies to specific state agencies. But it's still ridiculous.

Even if the law applied to LPD, technically the chief did nothing wrong due to his fancy wording. What was it... "10 documented traffic encounters" (including warnings), or something like that.

I'll give him 10 improper parking warnings every month.

I don't really care about the work. You write almost half of that on crashes during the month! And there's certainly no shortage of traffic violations. It just looks bad to the public. All these years, when someone asks me, "Filling your quota today officer?" I"ve been able to say, "No." We already have a heinous reputation for traffic enforcement... this certainly does nothing to better our image with the public and makes traffic stops that much more unpleasant for us and the motorists. Oh well, another example of the squeaky-wheel-receiving-the-grease theory. A few vocal citizens have complained long enough and hard enough that we now have a ticket quota.

If only someone would start complaining long and hard about the significant drug problem we have in our city - both prescription and street.

Good thought but sorry there is no money is getting drugs off the streets however the ticket revenue is through the roof.....just do the math. nfi

Day 2 : 3 out of 10

Listen, write for crashes like we have...most of the time. But I challenge all of you to buck the system!! You cannot be disciplined for it then it because pay for performance! I am so sick of traffic, traffic, traffic!!!

It is such a political cop out! If I wanted to write tickets all day I would've been a Trooper! Remember the Reagan days? JUST SAY NO!!!

written warnings are gold....thats how to fight back.

the city doesnt get money and the chief can't get mad....WE WIN

Now you are thinking!!! JUST SAY NO
