has any one noticed that 90 percent of our stop signs in our city have no white stop bar line. without this line we cannot enforce the violation of a traffic control device. we have stop signs all throughout north port with no white line advising motorist when to stop. once you leave a major intersection or school zone they stop marking stop lines unless your in old north port and sometimes there are none also.

they will paint lines when they fix the roads if that tells you anything. that is correct you cant write the utc if they do not have a white line to stop at. this city doesn ot care just take a look around its a 3 ring circus. we have residents that cant walk on the street without getting killed due to no ligths and no sie walks combination for death when walking. the city right of way is a mess. this is not the most attractive looking town by no means.

You really don't know what you are talking about, you might want to read the statute book a little deeper.

(2)(a) Except when directed to proceed by a police officer or traffic control signal, every driver of a vehicle approaching a stop intersection indicated by a stop sign shall stop at a clearly marked stop line, but if none, before entering the crosswalk on the near side of the intersection or, if none, then at the point nearest the intersecting roadway where the driver has a view of approaching traffic on the intersecting roadway before entering the intersection. After having stopped, the driver shall yield the right-of-way to any vehicle which has entered the intersection from another highway or which is approaching so closely on said highway as to constitute an immediate hazard during the time when the driver is moving across or within the intersection.

Let me highlight it for you, cause you know... some people only read until the stop bar part.

316.123 (2)(a) clearly states that the white line in not mandatory. As long as the vehicle stop at a stop sign before entering the intersection.

If they just roll through the stop sign, what difference does a white line make? Statute says, if there is no white line present, you have to stop before entering the intersection where the driver has a view of other cars in order to safely clear the intersection.

As far as a hearing officer goes, maybe the officer(s) should point out next time the statute in question. The law clearly describes the requirements associated with coming to a complete stop at a stop sign.

Correct me if I am wrong.
