SARASOTA COUNTY- The Sarasota County Sheriff's office is investigating the shooting death of a man in front of Outback Steakhouse on University Parkway.
Investigators say it started about 10:40 Saturday night when a deputy tried to pull over a driver at Orange Avenue and Myrtle Street for a traffic violation.
The sheriff's office says the driver took off and the deputy followed. Deputies then used stop sticks at 17th Street and Tuttle Avenue. The pursuit continued east on University Parkway, and ended just east of Lockwood Ridge Road.
The suspect stopped, jumped out of his vehicle and ran toward Outback. Deputies say he pointed a handgun at one of the deputies so deputies shot him.
The suspect has been identified as 39 year old Michael Brabazon of Sarasota.
The six deputies have been placed on paid administrative leave while the incident is being investigated.
