View Full Version : Who thinks adam should wear a vest?

11-17-2007, 11:56 PM
Adam, here is an article you should read. Who agrees?

(Stoneville, NC) - - Shortly before 9:30 last night, Deputy Kevin Harris responded to a noise complaint of loud music at 250 Rodgers Lane.

After meeting with the complainant, Deputy Harris went to the aforementioned location. He then walked to the rear of the residence and met 73-year-old John Fairbanks near the back door.

The deputy identified himself and approached Fairbanks. The deputy observed something in Fairbanks' hand and as he was just a few feet away, Fairbanks raised his hand and discharged a small caliber handgun at Deputy Harris.

The Deputy was shot in his upper torso, but fortunately his (bullet proof) vest protected him. Deputy Harris immediately went into a defensive posture and left that immediate area. It was during that time he heard a second shot. He retreated to a neighbor’s residence and someone there called 911 for assistance and offered aid.

At that time both Eden Police Officers and a Stoneville Police Officer joined other deputies at the incident location. Sheriff Page was contacted and was able to place a telephone call to the Fairbanks residence. He instructed Mr. Fairbanks to lay down his pistol, and exit the residence in a safe manner. He did, and was promptly arrested by deputies outside the residence for shooting Deputy Harris.

While law enforcement was on the outside the residence attempting to secure the area and during these previously described events, another neighbor came to the scene.

James Walker Wells, 63 of 240 Rodgers Lane came armed with a .357 revolver. He refused to comply with the commands of these officers and was also arrested. He was charged with carrying a concealed gun and resisting a public officer. He was transported to the magistrate’s office and made a $2,500 bond.

Deputy Harris was taken to Morehead Hospital for treatment. He was later released and should return to work soon.

John Henry Fairbanks has been charged with attempted first degree murder. His bond is $500,000 and he is currently in the Rockingham County Detention Facility.

The logic that "it wot help me if I get shot in the head" is like saying there is no point of looking before you cross the street because a meteor may fall on you.
A lot of resisents here are armed adam. Please, why not TRY and protect yourself

11-18-2007, 11:08 PM
I agree too. Adam, your way to active not to be wearing one. We dont need an avoidable funeral. WEAR IT

11-19-2007, 01:26 AM
Active or not......we all work in this violent a$$ city. I know a few hill cops that dont wear their vest, not just one.

Its their decision not to wear one..dont think it warrants a topic for all to see though

I concur with this Mr. Willson. You scream at your trainees and zone partners when we do something unsafe which we appriciate but your the one not wearing a vest. We know you practice safe tactics but you cant outrun a bullet.

Oh yea, heres some serious motiviation for you to wear a vest. Just think. If your shot out here, who do you think will be investigating your death....That would be G. Celetti (scary).

Its their decision not to wear one..dont think it warrants a topic for all to see thoughit does because alot of people like willson and no one wants to see a cop like him escorted down Broward Blvd by every motor unit in the tri-county area. His eulogy would read,"Adam you made us laugh, you kicked some ass, now your dead and not because of a gunshot to the head. Adam is important to keep around. If this were star trek, he would be Mr Scot because they never kill off his character, that is how important adam is. wear your vest dammit!

Great way to put it. Adam, you are very importsnt to all of us. You do your best to keep your zone partners safe by always being there. This is our way to keep you safe. I'll be the first to admit that this vest sucks, but take a look at our city. We used to pull dope off of 13ps everynight. Now, they added guns along with the dope. You know this first hand. Just wear it!

11-19-2007, 02:13 PM
Adam Ive known u longer than most of these guys and girls, since you've cut your teeth in this city, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE WEAR YOUR VEST. I COULDNT BARE THE THOUGHT OF HAVING TO COME TO YOUR FUNERAL OR HAVING TO READ/SAY YOUR FINAL 10-7 OVER THE AIR. PLEASE DONT PUT ME OR ANYONE ON HERE THROUGH THAT! WE CARE ABOUT YOU TOO MUCH FOR THAT! AND WHATS WORSE IS THAT MEANS ONE OF THESE P.O.S. WOULD WIN!!!!!!! PLEASE WEAR IT! I know you can figure out who this is without trying! You know I'm just looking out for you.

I'm tired of putting on this damn mourning band. Plus, do you really want to be the reason why theres a memorial wall in the lobby of the PD? As of today, one doesnt exist. Lets keep it that way

Wear it and the punches stop...........WHO AGREES?

11-19-2007, 08:45 PM

11-20-2007, 12:53 PM
Speaking of vests, I saw a show on discovery channel about dragon skin armor Wow that stuff is neat.
It probably costs an arm and leg but it can withstand a grenade.

11-20-2007, 09:08 PM
leave the guy alone. Has anyone thought to think that every person in this counry can read this crap? Smart, now every 13p knows one of our cops doesnt wear a vest. This page is for bettering our department, not talking about one another.

If they guy doesnt want to wear his vest, then he doesnt want to wear his vest. Simple as that.

11-20-2007, 10:41 PM
hey dumb ass they arent doing this because they want to talk trash about him, they are worried about him. DUH! besides you are a day late and a dollar short here, someone else has already brought this point up!!!!!!!!

11-21-2007, 10:59 AM
Hey, I didnt brush my teeth today...lets start a thread about that too.

Lauderhill cops are officially the counties gossip queens.

Who cares if the kid doesnt wear a vest. Half of my department doesnt wear one either. Thats why its optional. You guys really shouldnt broadcast this type of stuff. You say your worried about one of your officers not wearing a vest?????? Good job, now everyone in your city knows too. Hope hes not too proactive out there.

Goodluck vestless one, your own may get you killed

WE CANT SAY THE WORD 'B-A-S-T-A-R-D' HERE? OK ADAM, YOU GOOFY SON OF PARENTS BORN OUT OF WEDLOCK!

11-22-2007, 05:48 PM
Adam, you are easily within the counties top cops catagory. I cant believe you work for the hood and you dont wear protection. I dont work with you, but i've known you since our teens. Guess who.

Where your damn vest before I beat the crap out of you like the old days lol.

Seriously, I've read this blogs. Its cool to see that some many of your parners truly care about you.

I dont want to watch your chief hand your loved ones a folded flag!

11-22-2007, 05:53 PM
Oh, and I forgot to mention something. I dont know about lauderhill, but my fire-rescue people crawl out of bed and respond to officer injuries at 15 MPH. It takes our rescue sometimes 15 minutes to respond. Is Lauderhill Fire any better? If not, something to think about.

if you get shot, remember the golden hour rule. You HAVE to be fixed within one hour or you die.

Also, do you Lauderhil guys have the same agreement regarding downed cops. Our rule is if a cop is seriously injuried, hes put in a patrol car and rushed to north broward. Same for you guys? I HOPE SO

11-23-2007, 01:38 PM
Go to your doctor and get a slip that you have to wear a tactical vest and cotton shirt! It is called contact dermititis ... from having too much moisture on your skin for long periods of time! If it is work related workmans comp has to provide you a vest and clothing!

Speaking of this, What was your dumbass doing looking for a 41/0 suspect without a VEST and without a 94 last night? Good job finding him, but this is what were talking about. Your out looking for an armed guy and your not wearing a vest. Come on Adam, were not writing to hurt you, we care buddy. By the way, we heard you go 10-8 even though you whispered into the radio so we wouldnt hear you. LOL NICE TRY. The phone calls were made and we were in the area waiting for you to scream. LOL. Good job with that arrest but wear your vest a$$hole

This is something we should seriously all discuss with each other (unwritten policy). This is somehing that we should discuss now and not when were standing over a shot cop. I agree, I personally think that we should transport our own and have dispatch contact BGH and let them know were 51. Every cop car should also have QUICK CLOT in the golve boxes. It suppresses major bleeding and is used by the armed forces. It truly enhances your chances of survival. And it only costs like 30 bucks and could be purchased online.

Be safe boys and gals

As a former police officer (a million years ago) in Suffolk County New York and the current Associate Director of Emergency Services at CentraState Medical Center in New Jersey I must reply to the comments about being shot and the benefits of rapid transport versus waiting for EMS as well as the advantages and disadvantages of Quick Clot.

The VAST MAJORITY of fatalities from gunshot wounds are the result of INTERNAL BLEEDING. This is why if you respond to a shooting it is more common to see entry wounds with some capillary bleeding rather than a victim laying in a pool of blood who has exanguinated, or died from the loss of all of his blood.

QUICK CLOT, works on EXTERNAL BLEEDING ONLY. In many studies such as one conducted in Houston by Dr. Daniel Rosa, a similiar product to Quick Clot made by a different company showed NO increase in the 24 hour, 7 day or 30 day survival for patients with penetrating trauma.

When you are shot you die from a lack of volume. While this is secondary to bleeding, it is mostly internal bleeding. EMS can replace lost volume with IV Saline, or IV Lactated Ringers.

EMS also has the ability to decompress a chest with a needle. This procedure is performed when trauma to the chest results in a collapsed lung. The air that escapes from the lung puts pressure on the heart causing it to stop beating. EMS can solve this withing 15 seconds by preforming what is called a needle decompression.

EMS also has the ability to stick a needle into the pericardium (the sac that surrounds the heart) to remove blood that has collected there preventing the vnetricles in the heart to contract.

Most importantly, advanced EMS providers such as EMT-Intermediates and paramedics have the ability to secure a patients airway through advanced measures such as Intubation and Tracheotomy.

In the early days of EMS, the "load and go" method you describe was used. Without exception, almost EVERY study that has been conducted on the benefits of EMS show that survivability is greatly increased with early advanced treatment, such as that treatment provided by EMS agencies.

Then maybe it would be better to load into squad car and go to fire rescue station or meet fd half way.

Wow, funny to see that adam got his very own topic. Just unfortunate that its because he doesnt wear a damn vest. All I have to say is, WTF ADAM??

You preach safety to all the guys you train and here you are, vestless. Your a damn good cop, but your not bullet-proof. You still chasing the dope delaers around devonhunt and the "box??" I miss working with you brother. I still refer to you as being my best zone partner even though I left the hood.

Be safe and put on your vest.

Why would he follow up, he did his part. He informed his supervisor and his supervisor handled it.

11-30-2007, 02:37 AM
Adam....wear the vest!....not only for yourself, but your family.....As a mother I know I would not want to bury my child.........We all care about you so wear the damn thing........

11-30-2007, 02:42 AM
Adam, please tell these people to stop with all this already. I'm tired of reading pages and pages of plea's

I think this thread has gone on LONG ENUFF!!

Please stop the madness!!!

11-30-2007, 05:29 PM
4 pages of pleas and he still wont wear it. I asked him the other day for his reason for not wearing it and he had a genuine reason.

I think its time to end this thread and leave the guy alone.

Who can we pick on next..................

11-30-2007, 05:37 PM
Here is a new idea. Lets not pick on ANYBODY.

Instead, why don’t we ask "Why haven’t we heard anything about the Sgt. Chris Reyka homicide investigation"?

Every day I hear about his kids getting a scholarship, or a road being dedicated in his name (which is all great stuff), but I never hear anything about possible leads or cars we should be reporting to the command post. Is BSO too busy Baker Acting their own people and confiscating all sharp objects around the office to get this important job done!?!

Are we all relegated to just accept the fact if we are killed, our families can only find solace in the fact cops is wearing a pin with my CCN on it?!?! I think WE deserve BETTER!!

11-30-2007, 11:11 PM
I would like to hook adam up with my sister.

12-07-2007, 05:03 PM
Who really cares because if he doesn't care then why should I.

12-08-2007, 08:34 PM
You suck!!! I don't have a car either, but I would rather ride every shift in the back seat of the old K-9 car if that would prevent anyone from getting hurt. If you want a car so bad why don't you apply somewhere else. I don't understand we are sopposed to help each other and make sure everyone goes home in one peice at the end of every shift. Did you ever stop to think about the facts.... NO ONE IN THE CITY CARES IF YOU LEAVE YOUR SHIFT IN A PINE BOX OR IF YOU EVER WALK THROUGH YOUR FRONT DOOR AGAIN OTHER THAN YOUR PARTNERS! Maybe you ment the comment as a joke and feel like you getting bashed now, but that wasn't even close to being funny. I hope you don't work with me, but I guess I will never know becuase it seems like everyone wants to speak there mind here but there hands seem to cramp up when it come time to typing your name.

Well my hands are working fine.....

Step #2 Learn how to use a SPELL CHECKER !!

Step #3 Slow down a little. Your voice is cracking

12-09-2007, 08:59 PM
Thanks for the advice! When you type your name after your B.S. then maybe I'll give your comment some thought. Until then, please continue to humor me with your assumptions.

I know this post was old months ago but im first reading it now. First off, what the fu$k??? Why doesnt he wear one. And he works in 35 zone. Death wish? is he the only one that doesnt wear one around here? has anyone pulled him aside and beat it into him to wear one?

07-14-2008, 01:49 PM
Your right....this post was OLD months ago and you seem a little slow to just be reading it now.

We are not adding to this post at all. It always turns into a slam fest and were done with that
