Driving to meet applicants

I understand several of the brass took a trip to Tampa to meet a potential minority canidate. Before it starts, I am all for the PD being diverse and we need the PD to reflect the community we serve, but do we drive to interview any of our applicants???? If someone wants to be hired I think they should have the courtesy to at least take the time to come here and be interviewed. If we go out to interview one applicant should we not do it for all? I think this is a bad idea and may open the PD to liability if someone files suit because they were not hired and the brass did not come to their location to interview them.
