ORLANDO, Fla. --

An off-duty Orlando police officer was found shot to death in a vehicle early Thursday morning.

Police have ruled the death an apparent homicide, WESH 2 News reported.

Officials said an off-duty deputy found Alfred Gordon Sr., an 18-year veteran officer, at around 1 a.m.

Gordon was found in a vehicle outside the Bank of America on 7105 Silver Star Road in west Orange County.

The sheriff has announced that there is $20,000 reward for any information that may lead to solving the case.

Investigators said they think it was a robbery, that Gordon was there to make a transaction at the bank.

Fellow officers have wrapped their badges with a black band, and the flag at the Orlando Police Department has been lowered to half-mast.

"He's 52 years old. He's just out there living his life, going and doing what you do day-to-day. As the sheriff said, it's a senseless killing. It shouldn't have occured, and while we're talking about a police officer today, we could be talking about anybody tomorrow," Orlando Police Chief Mike McCoy said.

Police officers said they are very angry. One officer said it is time for us to take our city back.

Investigators said they believe there are witnesses that can help because on a surveillance tape, a witness is shown making a deposit right before the incident occured.
