Capitol Police

Do most capitol police go on to become special agents? Or are they mostly retired from other departments? I'm just curious as to the reason one would become a capitol p.o. given the low salary compared to other police agencies.

Actually Capitol Police officers make about the same as most other uniformed state officers (less than FHP, only slightly less than DOT, and slightly more than DEP or AgLaw).

It went a long time that no one was really going "up the ladder" there, but recently that seems to have changed a bit. Two officers went up to Special Agents a little less than a year ago. A few months ago, 3 more moved up, 2 or 3 moved up to Security Agents at the Governors Mansion, 2 moved up to Special Agents with ABT, and within the past year or so, 2 or 3 have gone to FHP.
