View Full Version : FHP IS LEADER IN TECHNOLOGY ?

Heard today from my "BFF" that is a trooper in a SE state which is between GA and MS. That they no longer have to transmit their tickets b/c the clerks office gets them off the server. He only prints the def. copy. Must be nice, here in NE FL still leading the nation by diong my UTC transmittal every week. (oh and for those other threads they issue new Bushmaster AR-15's and can chase whatever loser runs from them) 8)

FHP uses a patrol car that is a 25 year old design, has the worst braking, acceleration, top speed and fuel economy in it's class.

FHP uses a radio system that fails 25% of the time.

FHP still uses the Pr 24 no tasers.

FHP still uses the 870 Remington shotgun exclusively, no patrol rifles.

Oh yeah, we're high-tech.

We are not leading anyone except "the lost"

09-06-2007, 11:56 PM
We may lead in attrition.

FHP straight up sucks so they try to fluff the GPS and printable ticket thing for all they can! Dont let anyone fool you when they say FHP has great equipment. Are there agencies further behind then FHP technology wise? Yes, but they pay more. There are also agencies that had 10 years ago what FHP is just now getting, plus they pay more.

Look at progressive agency's like Pinellas S.O. Facial recognition., licence plate cameras ( scans plates for warrants signal 10's, suspended/DWLSR), .45 caliber, tasers, over 40k a yr to start. Air support, K-9 support. Lot's of speciality units. They now even have laptops on a few of there boats. They have Arms specialist to help with there reports. Hey but at least you guys at FHP have full size Crown Vic's.

Man, sure a lot of cry babies in this chat room. if the Pinellas Co SO is so great, go there and shut up............ oh but you can't seem to get a job anywhere else except with an agency with low / no standards. you couldn't get pass the hiring process of the SO is why you stay and complain. FHP has the most up to date equipment around. I agree with you, so what! We have the best equipment and the lowest paid workin it. nice. I would drive a pinto and hand write all citaitons if they paid me more too, but to complain, ***** and moan about it is the wrong way to go. You have to get involved in our union and get the PBA separated from the brass. When they clash with management and not sit in their pockets or sit at their backyard pools on holidays, sucking down mojitos with the brass is when things will happen. shut up or leave....... I hear publix is hiring bag boys, or night security for the stale bread...... lol

And why is *****ing the wrong way to go? You think "joining" the union is going to change a darn thing? They just laugh at that union. Maybe if they see how pissed off we are maybe they will change things. Just doing your job and not causing a stir is why this agency is the way it is.

Do you really think that anyone that makes in excess of $80,000 really cares what goes on on a day to day basis? they work their day shift, weekends off, holidays off, and no midnight shifts. they only care about things that occur during the bankers hours... LOL. The only way to make changes around here is to promote and take over. Be in a position to make changes and not hang on to out dated stereotypes. Make changes by promoting to capt or above and make changes one district at a time. Look at the Polk dist, look at the changes made there in the past year. A place no one wanted to go to the past couple of years, and now you can't get a transfer in there to save your life and no one is abandoning that district. and what changed? Well do your research and you will see what happened. It's all about bringing FHP into the 20th century. What agency rotates their shift every 28 days? NO ONE. What agency has their most senior people working the graveyard shift? NO ONE. (unless they elect to). What other agency says the hell with seniority? NO ONE. But do you really think anyone making the big bucks and is at home with their families EVERY WEEKEND, EVERY HOLIDAY, AND IS IN THEIR COMFORTABLE BED EVERYNIGHT really cares? if you do, you need your head examined.. As long as the ship is running steady and sure OH and you get your CARE stats in on time, THE BRASS DOESN'T REALLY GIVE A #@$%$&&#!@$!@$^*%@#$~@!!^%&*^&(^*. T

The other problem is that the troopers are not unified. Again, look at the PBA reps or old IUPA reps, or Current FAST reps, they are all in the colonels pocket. They are all YES men. This is exactly what we don't need. I am for the the Troopers and equality, not *****in, moaning and complaining, that won't get you anywhere or promoted. You have to be political about this and take the right approach. Perhaps the newspapers need to get involved, more exposure to the news media. How about letting the LT gov. go without FHP secuity? The current GOV spit in our faces, but we still kiss the LT gov's butt....... Nice. We still endorse the current gov eventhough he didn't give us a raise as promised. I am just as tired as you are. Be united, not divided.

concerned trooper.

Brother, you nailed it!

As a 10+ year trooper, I believe things will get a worse before they get better, especially with the property tax issues.

I am willing to give the current administration time to work on the pay issues. However, remember, they are only part of the equation. The legislature also has a part in this, and at the end of the day they have their hands on the purse strings, NOT the governor. In the past when governors have recommended pay increases they would eventually be shot down by the legislature in committee. In my opinion we need to focus on these committee's and hold the member legislators accountable.

Our greatest weakness as members is we are NOT unified. The unions and management know this. All of us need to speak and act collectively. Until we do, it will be the same song every year.

God bless, and stand by for some rough times ahead.

Keep your technology and pay me, my money. Technology does not pay my bills nor does it feed my family. Thanks for nothing.

You are right "poor trooper". I feel the same. The only reason I posted this technology stuff is b/c FHP always acts like we are leading everyone with our wonderful computers. How wrong they are Alabama is able to match our computers, issue better weapons (g22 , ar-15 , some tasers) , and PAY THEIR TROOPERS MORE MONEY. My friend works NO overtime and still has decent house ,car , life. -----Meanwhile my life revolves around how much soar and hireback I can get.... oh well maybe time to head back to AL.

Do it now. You are just wasting your time here. FHP and the state do not care about us. That is extremely evident from the horrible pay, shifts, training, equipment, etc.

I was talking to an Alabama Trooper the other day and he painted a little diffirent picture. They dont have laptops in their cars. Smartcop installed laptops for them on a trial basis, but after a year they pulled them out because their Col. didnt want to spend the money. They are extremly short handed (274 statewide to cover 24/7). I agree they have a sharp uniform, car, step pay plan and are set up the way Florida should be, but Alabama is a very cheap state to live in compared to Florida. I'm from there and when I retire I'm probably going back.

I'd disagree about IUPA being yes men to Chris. Evidence the fact that Chris openly spoke in favor of PBA and even had a staff member of his (Howes) attend a PBA meeting. Chris hated IUPA for getting us the 40 hour work week, no off-setting a holiday against sick day in the same work week and taking the special comp. problem all the way to the FL. Supreme Court. That and all the policy issues that IUPA challanged when it affected our working conditions or pay.

PBA was always in managaments pocket. Heck, they started the 240 hour cap on special comp. just for those of us in collective bargaing! Others don't have a cap. I just hope PBA does not give away the gains made in the last six years.

For guest , the Alabama Troopers all have MDT's now. They started in mobile and went north with them. Also their man-power is pushing 500 now. They just finished the first ever cross over class. I just got back from visiting my trooper buddy up there and saw his MDT with my own 2 eyes. Also not to depress ya'll more , he just got his taser x26. Hey guest i'm from ther also maybe we'll hook up and go if they start an out of state cross over class. 8)

You all continue to ***** and moan over tasers. All the real men dont need them and the rest just seem to use them inappropriately causing embarassemnt to their agencies and themselves. F the tasers, pay is the issue, heath insurance when you retire and a rifle(which would help against violent criminals with full auto's). Before we started letting in all of you pansies on, we would transport our criminals up front then we got cages and still you whine. You think that because an officer has a taser it makes him a real cop? Half of you couln't fight your way out of a paper bag, but you think a taser will keep you safe. We need alot of other things before a taser. Lets get some new leadership, lose a few cry babies and get back down to basics.

Fear not, Kevin Guidry is a new Deputy Lt. Colonel in charge of Technology. The cook made it to the big time.

He will go a long way as long as Austin is around to bail him out.

I agree "tasermy@##" that there are alot of girly men on the patrol but the tasers are a great tool if in the right hands. Transporting a 10-15 in the front seat makes you a big tuff guy??? Behind the cage sounds good to me , I keep the front clean for me & the back dirty for the dirtbags. I DEFINATELY AGREE THAT PAY IS #1 ISSUE FOR US. WE DON'T NEED TASERS, RIFLES , COMPUTERS , HAZ MAT SUITS ETC. WE NEED COMPETATIVE PAY then work on that other stuff.
