Any of you guys have any information about the Seminole Tribal Police in Glades County, I just graduated from the Academy, and there pay is great, I ran into one of their officers in Lake Placid and he seemed reluctant to tell me about the dept. I guess thats not a good sign.

The place is bad news, no job security, no benefits, I hear if you arrest an indian they will fire you. Not a place for a real cop. If they didnt pay well no one would work there.

Most of what has been said is true. Except you can be a real cop out there if you want to. You can arrest Indians, and they wont fire you but they will treat you differently if you do. Warning, if you get hired out there you cannot leave most of the surrounding counties dont pay enough, you will be stuck there. Starting pay is 12,000 or more than these counties and you can't afford to take the pay cut. Best bet is Highlands or Glades. Glades is going to 36 and so is highlands from what i hear. Good Luck.

I used to work for SDLE. Stayed about 6 months then left, didn't want to get caught up in all the shady activities going on between the admin and tribal leaders.

Seminole is NOT a bad place to work. Now if your all about writing tickets all day long for little pay and responding to nonstop calls then by all means stay where you are. But if you would like to get treated fairly, FEED your family well and work in a semi relaxed atmosphere you had better apply. You can be as much of a cop as you want to be, they wont tell you not too. Just alot of politics, but no more than Highlands County S.O. (trust me I worked there too). I make 3 times the yearly salary that I made per year since I began with SPD and you have all the O.T. and special details you want. Plus no measly 3% county raise each year that they give you 1.5% of at the beginning of the year and you may or may not get the rest later. Seminole gets a guaranteed 7% all at one time every year. As for it being an unstable dept, the Seminole tribe has 7 reservations in the state and now own the entire Hard Rock corporation worldwide!! They are here to stay and will always need law enforcement to keep the questionable element out of the casinos and hotels. Everytime I take a class at a community college I hear nothing but bad feedback about SPD, well (most) of it's not true. I also hear the SPD officers are not real COPS, well we have jurisdiction in over 20 counties in this state and have federal arrest powers throughout the United States, how real do you need? We have people apply from all over the state of florida and the ones that dont get hired decide to talk trash about us.
