I was actually here in 2005, when we had our 75 cars get broken into PER NIGHT for over 2 weeks. That is why crime is down. The hoodoes were arrested by HCSO in early 2006. I bet my entire net worth that they can?t define what an exceptional clear is?

Reported Crimes Down Nearly 11% at USF Tampa Campus




TAMPA, Fla. (Aug. 3, 2007) ? The number of reported crimes on the Tampa campus of the University of South Florida dropped nearly 11% between 2005 and 2006, according to the Division of Safety Yearly Activity Report. In 2006, there were a total of 961 crimes reported, compared with 1077 the year before. Some of the largest declines were in burglary reports (down from 204 reports in 2005 to 112 in 2006) and aggravated assault (down from 15 reports in 2005 to 4 in 2006).


?This is an indication of the great work by the USF Police Department, and a trend we like to see,? said Vice President of Student Affairs Dr. Jennifer Meningall. ?The safety of our students, faculty, and staff is one of our top priorities, and we take it very seriously.?

USF?s Tampa Campus has grown rapidly, with around 37,000 students on campus last year, and more than 10,000 faculty and staff. The rapid growth sometimes puts a strain on the police department, which is funded for nearly 50 officers. The USF Police Department is a fully accredited law enforcement agency, meeting or exceeding over 200 standards of excellence set by the Commission for Law Enforcement Accreditation. USF is one of over 100 law enforcement agencies in the state to meet these strict standards.

?The need for greater security was driven home to colleges and universities across the nation on April 16, in the tragedy at Virginia Tech,? said Dr. Meningall. ?We?re working to fill some of the vacancies on the force, and we?re discussing other proposals to beef up security on campus.?


The University of South Florida is among the nation's top 63 public research universities and one of 76 community engaged universities as designated by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. It is one of Florida?s top three research universities?and the youngest. USF was awarded more than $310 million in research contracts and grants last year. The University offers 217 degree programs at the undergraduate, graduate, specialty and doctoral levels, including the doctor of medicine. The University has a $1.6 billion annual budget, an annual economic impact of $3.2 billion, and serves 44,038 students on campuses in Tampa, St. Petersburg, Sarasota-Manatee and Lakeland. You are absolutely correct. There is a drug problem in the Fraternity area. The police are aware of it. When pc is found search warrants are executed. They just don?t happed as often as we would like. We know there are Glory Holes throughout the men?s restrooms on campus, LIB, LIF, hell parking lot 43 is advertised too if you know where to park. Now look at the numbers. How can 4 cops per shift (many times less if overtime coverage isn?t available) manage to police all of these areas at the exact time these incidents are happening? It?s a crapshoot at best. I would encourage you to voice your concerns to the President of the university and Channel 10 as they seem interested right now. If these problems are so well known to you, as a good law abiding citizen you should notify the police with specifics to assist in these concerns. Or are you one of those typical USF citizens that know about the problem and ignore it until it directly affects you personally? Any police force is only actually as thorough as its community wants it to be. It is apparent that the USF leaders really don?t give a rat?s ars about their community given the support they give their police department.

Looks like we have a watchdog out there. Good for you. I for one would not be concerned. I do my job and do it well. I have nothing to be ashamed of. Watch all you want as we are always in the public eye. Good officers conduct themselves in a manner that is consistent with proper ethics, proactive enforcement, attention to citizens? rights, and effective use of down time. But keep in mind, one day the tables might be turned and if you ever find yourself on the opposite end of an investigation I hope you can appreciate the scrutiny you might be put under.
