I just spoke with channel 10 the story look like it will be on Monday at 11pm and again tuesday on the morning show 5-7am. Set your TIVO if you have it, might be worth recording and keeping.

What will this story do? Will the University run to us Monday afternoon with a raise? No, it will do nothing for us, the University does not care. Most of the top Administrators will be tucked in and sleeping when this story airs.

If there was to be a major incident on this Campus today they would be pointing fingers at us, second guessing every move we made.

Of course lets not forget our fair weather friends in the media. They will be the first to do an investigative report to find out what we did even after tellng them whats wrong here . Its all about ratings, thats it.

The writing on the wall has now turned into a large bright red, flashing, neon sign. Move on elsewhere for a Real paycheck and do ONLY what is required of you, NOTHING more.

That last post made a lot of sense, one of the better ones I've read on here. Really, no one gives a crap about the USF police, unless their child is going to school here, I hope the Oracle runs this story.

I was asked once if USF was a safe campus for their kid to go to, by someone from this area that reads the news papers and watches the local news. I told them that it was a safe campus, but surrounded by high crime area.

They then told me that they know that, but that they were worried about the terrorist,....the professors and students from the Middle East. I think they sent their kid to FSU instead.

USF is already know for being sorrounded by the bad areas, but now on top of this, their is section eight housing in all the apartment complexes surrounding the University that the students live in too.

And on top of this you have to worry about the nuts like from the Va Tech shootings. I have been asked the questions about this question too; what will the UP do in response to that?

It's a shame the USF administration will not recognize the University Police as a major part of the University system in 2007.

I just saw the promo for the monday night story. It is going to be intense...and you should see how ridiculous Meningall looks. She says on camera "I've never heard anything like that " when asked about how bad things are t here. What a joke this whole thing is........at the very least USF is going to look like crap....we should all tell everyone we know to watch these upcoming episodes.....the truth needs to come out.

I just watched the news story. First, thanks to Tom and Bob for speaking out. Second, I can't believe what an idiot Meningall looked like. She sat there and told bold faced lies. I really liked how she talked about our positive "working" relationship with TPD and the SO. I think what she really meant was...."Don't worry USFPD if the s%#t really hits the fan the SO or TPD will come to your rescue." Hell if the whole patrol division quits.....TPD or the SO will pick up the slack. That's real sad to realize that she and Genshaft think we are expendable.

This News story has now showed everyone that this University is completely clueless about the safety of its students, staff, and its Police Department.

Why would any of your officers stay when your neighboring agencies are paying better and have take home vehicles? I know down here in Miami at FIU the only reason any of the officers stay is that they cant get hired anywhere else as they are all correction officer cross trained with no law enforcement experience or flunkies from other agencies that couldnt make it through the fto program of a real law enforcement agency.

Well if half the Department has less than a year on I think that tells you that there is a revolving door here and officers are going to other agencies. People take this job and basically take a chance.


The second part of your statement is uncalled for and has nothing to do with the subject at hand and is disrespectful to those LEO's

Kudos to the Chief for fully documenting concerns via email and laying it on the line for us. His emails were right on the money and he is wasting his talent to stay here, Chief no one would blame you for leaving us and putting your talent to use somewhere that would respect it !!

It is clear what the University thinks of us, it is clear that they will never support us, it is clear why Meningall cancelled the meeting. Glad I wasted an hour and a half documenting my concerns. Last time I do that !!!

Well at least you know your Chief supports you, but unless you work for FDLE or are a top administrator in the state system you are never going to make a good salary.

I have to agree with guest212 as I have seen the type of officers that work at FIU and most would never make it in a municipal agency. I went to school at FIU and the agency I work for borders FIU, the officers there do not have to take polygraphs to get on, they dont have to take a physical agility test and one officer who works there who use to be a corrections officer told me he is just happier to be making more money than when he was in the state prisons and doing nothing most of the day.
End result, Fat lazy cops who have no Law Enforcement experience and probably have questionable backgrounds.

The other colleges in the state must follow the same guidelines of no polygraph or physical agility and questionable backgrounds, which must be the reason any certified officer would remain and make less money with no take home car. The only exception I could see to this is the Officer who has been on a long time and when they started in law enforcement it use to be hard to get on with any Law Enforcement agency so you went with who ever hired you and to those who fit the criteria i apologize for this blasting message, and to those of you who can get on with a municipal agency or sheriffs department, go and make a real salary and get the benefit of a take home vehicle.

I want to thank Chief Longo for all his efforts. It is because of his enthusiasm for wanting to make USFPD a better place to work that many of us have stuck around another year. But after seeing the Channel 10 news extra clip and seeing Dr. Jennifer Meningall openly lie repeatedly about the issues at hand I have lost all faith in the University of South Florida?s upper administration. I mean, don?t get me wrong I never really had much faith in them since ?Go Bulls :D ? came into town but wow what a slap in the face to see it aired on TV. Talk about being made to feel like a ******* step-child. Thank you Dr. Evil Step-Mother. If I openly lied like that in an internal investigation I would be investigated and fired. What ramifications will she face? Ummm lets see. Not a damn one. She is a puppet controlled by the Carlucci/Genshaft (spelling? I really don?t care if it?s right or not) monarchy. USF is ruled by a collaboration of individual job protecting, over paid, spin-doctors. But can we really blame her. What does she make a year? About $160,000. Hell, we?d probably talk all kinds of crap too to protect that chunk of change. No. Wait. Who am I kidding? The officers (all ranks included) have a better work ethic than she could ever hope for. We swore an oath to do our jobs and that is what we do. We do our jobs busy or slow, mundane or intense. What promise did she make? Step up. Be honest. Speak the truth. Oh, who am I kidding? I give up. Thank you USF for brining me down and putting me in my place and showing me what I'm worth.

Ok after watching the story my butt even hurt. Hey Geneshaft, Carlucci, or Gullett if you need some assistance removing what was just shoved up your bum call HCSO or TPD, you know we are interchangable. Oh wait thats right they have no clue where you are on campus and would need us to give them an escort to find your building. Also if you need some A&D cream you can find it at the CVS at Fowler and BB Downs on aisle 4. Price check, Price Check, I need a price check on butt cream.

That was a beautiful news story, hopefully the news station will continue to pressure the university staff and we shall prevail. 8)

For years this department has been under appreciated and ignored. Since this chief has taken over, his number one goal has been trying to help his officers. All of his attempts have fell on deaf ears. We were told that Dr. Meningal wanted us to fill out surveys stating our concerns with the department. We completed them, and spent several hours doing so. Dr. Menningal sent them back, and wanted them summarized. She did not feel the need to spend an hour reading the surveys.

We have had an officer in a shootout, and nothing changed. We had a student MURDERED, and nothing changed. NOTHING. One thing to add to the homicide. This has never been disclosed, nor has it been asked. Thier were only three officers patrolling the night of murder. 1 Sgt., 1Cpl, and one officer who was on the job for only eight months. This as well as the homicide was swept under the rug.

I along with several officers have come in contact with several subjects who are mentally unstable. Two of which i have encountered i feel have the capability of copying a Virginia Tech type incident. One subject was looking up Dr. Genshaft and Dr. Menningal's salary online upon contact. These subjects are not after the police. If they do act in a manner of violence it will be against the students, or higher ups such as the ones stated. The only thing between them and you, is US. So take care of us.I would'nt put a whole lot of confidence in you P.R. rep Dr. Genshaft. It looked like he had a hard enough time answering simple questions, Is'nt he paid to do that? Listen, all we want is what the chief has been asking for. He is battling for us. Any other chief would have quit by now, i respect him for that. We will NOT go away, wether we are told to "calm down" by our own, or even if you choose to ignore us. One more thing, don't even think about touching OUR chief. You think your getting heat now?

IF YOU ARE THAT CONCERNED ABOUT IT WHY DONT YOU GO WORK FOR A REAL LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY THAT IS NOT OVERSEEN BY SOMEONE FROM THE WORLD OF ACADEMIA. THESE SAME PEOPLE WHO ARE OVERSEEING YOUR DEPARTMENT ARE THE ONES WHO WERE THROWING ROCKS AND BOTTLES AT THE POLICE IN THE 60S AND 70S. THEY HAVE NO CLUE WHAT THE WORLD OF LAW ENFORCEMENT ENTAILS, NOR DO THEY REALLY CARE ABOUT YOU. WHY DO YOU THINK THE TURNOVER RATE IS SO HIGH? YOU KNOW WHAT PHD STANDS FOR RIGHT??? "PILED HIGH AND DEEP."

I ACTUALLY TEND TO WONDER ABOUT THOSE USF COPS WHO DO NOT LEAVE FOR OTHER AGENCIES. WHAT IN THE WORLD MAKES YOU STAY? USFPD IS A JOKE OF AN AGENCY, ALTHOUGH IT DOES (AND HAS HAD) HAVE SOME GOOD OFFICERS. BUT THE GOOD OFFICERS ARE USUALLY THE ONES WHO SEE THE LIGHT AND LEAVE.
