You may have missed it because the obituary said Joaquin S. De La Llana, but those of us who worked with him knew him as "Jack."
Jack retired as a Detective Sergeant with TPD, probably before most of the active duty TPD officers now serving were even born.
We worked a couple of cases together back in the 1960s when I was with HCSO, but I didn't know him well. I don't have a lot to say about him other than when we worked together he was competent and professional.
It seems that a lot of the younger officers feel no connection with the history of the department or with the officers who made that history. To me that is a shame.
Some have even stated forcefully that they had no interest in attending the FOP meetings where they would have contact with the old timers. To me that, too, is a shame.
In any event, I didn't want to let his passing go unremarked upon here on the TPD message board.
