Hello all! I'd like to get some imput from experienced officers in the South Florida area. I have three years of experience as a police officer in DC and I'm looking to relocate to the area. Which departments are best with regards to benefits and quality of life issues. I also have a college degree so I would meet all the requirements from such departments like Coral Springs. Your imput would be very valuable to me. Thanks!

You probably answered your own question. Several of the western agencies have pretty good benefits. Springs, Pines, Miramar, ect.. They can be busy but they are usually not as short handed and as busy as the eastern cities like Deefield, Pompton, Ft Laud., Hwood. Not being a jerk here but if you are a minority then you should work for BSO. We've had some other DC cops with less experience rise through the ranks pretty fast. Not fair, and I'm not being a d-ick, but its the truth.

The City of Miami Beach has one of the best overall benifits packages you can find, especially the retirement.

Yea and being micro managed? I don't think so. Bigger agency is better

Look at Wilton Manors. They have several openings and an easy background check.

Please submit your App to us here at Miami Gardens PD - we love reading this BSO site and we have great benefits. Free Sunpass, extra ammo, 5-0 on food no one would eat, & all the calls you can handle. We'll give you a pick of whats holding- robberies, murder, hostage calls by a loved one.

Stay away from Miramar. They just gave up several pension benefits and now have one of the worst packages over there. Very bad morale with many leaving and applying anywhere to get out of a city that is going bankrupt fast. Staffing shortages give them little time off without calling in sick. Miami Gardens is much better or Davie, BSO and Springs.

Look at FHP..... Staring salary 33,500 and after 20 years to get to 33,500. No benfits and no overtime. Why look any further?

Stay out of Florida until this tax crap settles down. Go to one of the northern state police agencies like NY, Pa or NJ.
