Steele in court during Thursday's proceedings. Alfredie Steele Jr. has been convicted of murdering Pasco County Sheriff's Office Lt. Charles "Bo" Harrison.

After deliberating about 4 1/2 hours, jurors convicted Steele, 23, of first-degree murder in the shooting of Harrison on June 1, 2003.

Harrison, 57, was in the parking lot of the Farm Basket Market off Highway 301 in Lacoochee near Dade City. He was conducting surveillance on the Rumors Nightclub across the street.

The defense had said Steele didn't know anyone was in the car when he fired.

Steele could face the death penalty. The jury will meet Friday to begin deliberations in the penalty portion of the trial.

Under Florida law, the judge must give the jury's recommendation great weight when he sentences Steele.
