IM A CCOP IN MIAMI, FL, AND I BOUGHT A HOUSE IN MARION OAKS-OCALA. I AM THINKING OF MOVING UP THEIR AND WAS THINKING OF WORKING AS A COP UP THEIR. CAN ANYONE ADVISE ME OF THAT ARWEA WHERE I PURCHASED, IF IT'S A DECENT AREA, AND IF THE DEPARTMENTS ARE HIRING?

If you not opposed to diversity Marion Oaks is not bad. Some areas are worse. The agencies you have to think about are Ocala Police Department, Marion County Sheriff's Office or Maybe Belleview PD. All of them seem pretty decent so I would look at which one is willing to pay me more to start. Nice Town, slower pace, lower blood pressure.

Dude'

One thing MARION OAKS is like overtown. or 10,20 30,40 sectors all put togethere. :( :( :(

I would suggest somewhere else to move to.
That area is a major headache...

the real estate prices in marion oaks are going down. what r the police salaries like, over time, off duties, florida retirement system? can n e 1 advise?

The Sheriff's Office has State Retirement System, salaries are very low, you get a maximum of 15% more for years of experience at other agencies.
I retired from Pembroke Pines after 23 years. I moved up to Ocala and started with the Sheriff's Office earlier this year. Police Work in Central Florida is not anything like South Florida.
Much slower, no stress, friendly people that still respect law enforcement.
There's a couple of areas in the city that remind me of Dade County.

how was your transfer application process? did u have to go through field training for several weeks, etc.......take home car?

06-01-2007, 09:51 AM
This is for the Sheriff's Office, the application process was a breeze, no poly, no written test, a physical agility run, excellent physical exam, eye test, simple fill in the bubble pysc test, you get fast tracked thru their 8 week FTO program and you get issued everything you need for the job.
You must be assigned to partol first, then you can put in for other assignments. They assign you a take home car, lap top, etc.

Marion Oaks is a total dump! it's become gang infested and wouldn't be much different thna where you are in Miami. Move closer to Ocala, there are many places that would be much better. I'm a local cop and wouldn't move my dogs to Marion Oaks. The Marion County Sheriff's Office has their hands full down there.
