Between the 3 vestibules in LOL we have 16 cameras. In the pods where this "assault" happened, 0 cameras.

Must not have read the article

Try reading it again and read it slowly and know the facility

Your right, I must've missed these parts:

"The day room has places that the cameras cannot see."

Would that be because there are no day room cameras?

"But he (Tobin) would not say if anyone has plans to make the blind spots disappear."

Hence my suggestion to maybe relocate some of the unnecessary cameras and utilize them in places where there are "Blind Spots".

3 Vestibules (LOL), 4 cameras per = 12.
3 lock down housing units (C1-2-3), 0 cameras per day room/stair well = 0

Edit: Original post said 16 cameras, meant 12

Why would it be such an issue considering there was no camera in the facility ( housing units ) for almost 25 years and now all of a sudden you are going to make it sound like that is the way it should be? There are so many facilities in the state that have nothing.

There are no Camera's in the housing unit in LOL and people are being assaulted in one form or another, haven't seen you critiques those yet.

why is one deputy watching a1 a2 and a3. one officer should not watch one adult unit and two juvie units. you have to leave the juvie wing to check the adults, why???

Even more important and distressing is the fact that Doug Tobin blames the vicim for not coming forward quicker.

So, Mr. Tobin, it is the victim's fault that he was sexually assaulted and did not report it fas enough for your liking?

How does this agency continue to make such horrible decisions, yet gets no grief from any press? Do the papers even care anymore, or are they only worried about the Red Hat Ladies luncheons?

We should probably not give specifics for security reasons - mod?

Did Tobin "blame" the victim?

He did not want to leave the public with the impression that the attack was loud and the deputy failed to act - if there was actually an "attack." I am NOT saying there wasn't an attack, just that it is POSSIBLE it was not an attack. Tobin did not want to leave the public with the impression that the deputy was goofing off when the attack occurred. I read it as protecting the deputy.

Not giving that information to the media would allow the public to jump to conclusions with only partial information, just like we do here on the board.

To cover any blind spots--there would have to be 4 separate cameras for just the dayroom. Each cell has a camera, but you would need one for the top tier, bottom tier/dayroom. stairs, and bathroom. For what was orignally built as a special unit housing area. We used to house ad-seg/ red dots in C100/200. But alas we have SO many juvies that a100/200 could not hold them anymore. Maybe we should allow the schools to bring back spanking. Or hell MAYBE-Parents could teach their kids right from wrong, to respect authority, and NOT to take advantage of the weak. Maybe you could actually punish your child for doing wrong without fear of jail time yourself--By some "thinking their doing good" neighbor calling Patrol about the "poor child" next door. The agency is too busy making sure that the deputies aren't doing anything wrong to put cameras in to watch the inmates. Where tapes might help in criminal prosecutions & don't foret deputy assaults.
Be safe all

Just happened to come across the "Rape Elimination Act" inside the inmates handbook, and it does encourage them to "talk to someone you trust" or "submit a request saying that you were raped". Also says no names have to be mentioned. Thought that was a pretty good read, and theres like 3 pages on it!
