Manatee commission bans panhandling
The ordinance restricts all forms of "aggressive" panhandling, such as threats or efforts to impede passers-by, and any solicitation within 15 feet of public streets.

Solicitations may take place closer to the street if a wall, building or other permanent structure prevents a person from standing farther away.

Violators will first be warned. After that, they could face a $500 fine and/or 60 days in jail.

It's about damn time. I am so sick of these bums standing at every corner with their signs begging for money; especially when they are smoking a cigarette! Obviously the dude had enough $$ to buy a pack of smokes.
