MARIANNA, Fla. — The Jackson County sheriff’s wife, a deputy and two suspects were killed Tuesday in a shooting, authorities said.

Mellie McDaniel, wife of Sheriff John McDaniel, a deputy and two suspects were killed, Florida Department of Law Enforcement Karen Mason said. The identities of the deputy and suspects were not immediately released.

McDaniel was driving home when she noticed a suspicious car following her. She pulled into her driveway when two suspects shot and killed her. The suspects also fatally shot the deputy who responded to the scene, local news reports said.

It was not immediately known whether the shooting was random or whether McDaniel had been targeted. No other details were immediately available.

Bay County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Ruth Sasser confirmed there had been a shooting and said their agency was investigating with a SWAT team, K9 units and air units.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office declined to comment Tuesday night.

Whatever became of this matter!

Sheriff McDaniel was targeted by the two suspects as the sheriff was still investigating a suspicious death. The husband, (one of the the two slain a.holes), wanted the $500.000 life insurance which he just took out on his wife. As the sheriff still had an open case, the insurance company would not pay out the claim. The husband's friend wanted his part of the money for helping him cover up the murder and was getting impatience. So these two came up with the idea of killing the sheriff and then with the sheriff out of the picture the agency would just close out the case.

They shot his wife while she was in her car and ambushed the arriving deputy as soon as he put his car in park. They tried to ambush the sheriff the same way, but did not see his two back ups arriving. The sheriff was under fire in the open when one of his deputies returned fire and dragged him behind cover. The second deputy opened fire with his AR-15 and ended the firefight and sent both subjects straight to hell!

I personally presented the two deputies and Sheriff McDaniel with Silver Stars for bravery and The Medal of Honor to Dorthy Altman, wife of the slain deputy, Mike Altman.
