MARIANNA, FLA. -- Authorities are confirming that the wife of the Jackson County, Fla., sheriff has died in a home invasion that also left a deputy and two intruders dead.
Rumors spread throughout the rural Jackson County community even as police agencies descended upon the scene at the sheriff's house along State Road 73, north. While two suspected intruders were confirmed killed, authorities reportedly were searching for possible other suspects.
Sheriff John McDaniel’s wife, Mellie Edenfield McDaniel, had been employed at the Jackson Sheriff's Department for a number of years.
A press conference was planned later tonight by the sheriff's department and the State Attorney's office.
